Canberra Consulting is seeking experienced APS4 and APS5-Client Service and Administration Officers to support a Commonwealth Government department in Barton.
Two positions are available within a security-focused corporate services team. These roles will suit organised and service-oriented professionals who are comfortable managing client enquiries, processing applications, maintaining sensitive records and working within established government policies and procedures.
The Role Working as part of a collaborative team, you will provide high-quality client service and administrative support while contributing to efficient operational processes and continuous improvement.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as a primary point of contact for clients by telephone, email and in person.
- Responding to enquiries and assisting with the resolution or de-escalation of client concerns.
- Providing timely and accurate advice in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and service standards.
- Receiving, reviewing and processing applications, ensuring information is complete and accurate.
- Maintaining client records and updating relevant internal systems.
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to commence, monitor and finalise administrative processes.
- Supporting processes involving external service providers and other government agencies.
- Processing sensitive external checks in accordance with established requirements.
- Preparing clear and accurate written documentation for delegate consideration and approval.
- Contributing to the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures.
- Supporting projects relating to policy, service delivery and operational processes.
- Providing broader administrative assistance across the section as required.
About You To be successful, you will demonstrate:
- Strong organisational, problem-solving and time-management skills.
- Experience processing applications and managing administrative workflows.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a busy client service environment.
- Sound judgement and strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures when responding to client enquiries.
- The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Initiative and a willingness to contribute to process improvements and team outcomes.
Experience in security clearance processes, knowledge of the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework, or a Certificate III or IV in Government would be advantageous but is not essential.
Mandatory Requirements Applicants must:
- Be an Australian citizen .
- Hold a current Australian Government Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance or higher .
- Be available to work from the department’s Barton office, with any versatile working arrangements assessed on a case-by-case basis.
- Nominate whether they wish to be considered at the APS4 level or APS5 level .
The engagement is expected to commence in October 2026 and run for an initial 12 months, with the possibility of extension for up to a further 12 months.
