Air Theory / Treadies HVAC & R is looking for a motivated Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Apprentice to join our growing mechanical services team.
This is an opportunity to complete your Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration while gaining hands‑on experience across commercial HVAC, high-end residential projects, ventilation, refrigeration, controls, commissioning and specialist mechanical installations.
We are looking for someone who wants more than just a trade qualification.
We want to develop technicians who understand how and why mechanical systems work , and who are interested in building a long-term career in the HVAC and mechanical services industry.
What You’ll Be Working On
You will work alongside experienced tradespeople, project managers and mechanical engineers across a range of projects, including:
- Commercial air conditioning and refrigeration
- High‑end residential and architectural HVAC projects
- Commercial mechanical services installations
- Refrigeration systems
- Mechanical ventilation and fresh air systems
- Heat recovery ventilation systems
- Ductwork and pipework installations
- Split, ducted, VRF and commercial HVAC systems
- Controls, sensors and building automation
- Testing and commissioning
- Fault finding and diagnostics
- Equipment installation and system upgrades
- Specialist mechanical installations
You will also gain exposure to mechanical drawings, specifications, system design and the engineering principles behind modern HVAC systems.
What You’ll Learn
Throughout your apprenticeship, you will develop skills in:

Our goal is to help you become a technician who can think, troubleshoot and understand complete mechanical systems — not simply install equipment .

- Interested in air conditioning, refrigeration and mechanical systems
- Curious about engineering, technology and how buildings work
- Practical and comfortable working with tools
- Reliable and willing to learn
- Able to take direction and work as part of a team
- Comfortable asking questions and learning new systems
- Proud of the quality of their work
- Interested in building a long‑term career in HVAC
- Professional when working on commercial and high‑end projects
You do not need previous HVAC experience.
We are more interested in attitude, curiosity, work ethic and willingness to learn .
An interest in engineering, electrical systems, construction, mechanics, technology or building services will be highly regarded.
