About the role
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Heavy Vehicle Motor Mechanic to join our clients Fleet Maintenance team in Toowoomba.
This is an initial 3-month casual position, with the possibility of the role becoming ongoing for the right person, based on performance, reliability, skills and operational requirements.
You will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair of heavy vehicles, fire appliances and associated equipment, helping ensure vehicles remain safe, reliable and ready for operational deployment.
This is a great opportunity for a qualified Heavy Vehicle Mechanic who enjoys varied mechanical work and wants to be part of a team supporting critical frontline emergency services.
Key responsibilities
- Service, repair and maintain heavy vehicles and fire appliances.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults.
- Maintain firefighting systems, pumps and associated equipment.
- Use electronic diagnostic equipment and specialist tools.
- Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance and inspections.
- Conduct road tests and operational checks where required.
- Complete job sheets and electronic maintenance records.
- Maintain accurate parts and inventory records.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and to a high standard.
- Communicate with the Workshop Supervisor regarding vehicle condition and required repairs.
- Work effectively as part of a professional maintenance team.
About you
We are looking for someone who is reliable, practical, safety-focused and takes pride in their workmanship.
Ideally, you will have:
- A recognised Heavy Vehicle Motor Mechanic trade qualification, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working on trucks, buses, heavy commercial vehicles or similar equipment.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Experience with electrical and electronic diagnostics.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail.
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- A current MR or HR driver's licence is highly desirable.
- Ability to pass pre employment medical and police check
Experience with fire appliances, emergency vehicles, hydraulic systems, pumps or specialised equipment will be highly regarded.
Candidates with strong light vehicle mechanical experience who are looking to transition into heavy vehicle work may also be considered.
