Full-Time Position | Civil Construction & Mining Industry | Potential Rostered Role

Essjay Contracting is seeking an experienced Recruitment Officer to join our team and take ownership of recruitment across our growing civil construction workforce.

Based from our Gracemere, QLD office, this is a hands‑on position suited to someone who understands the pace and demands of civil and mining construction recruitment and is confident managing multiple vacancies, mobilisation requirements and workforce priorities at the same time.

We are looking for someone who can bring their own recruitment experience, and ideas to the role , rather than simply follow a check list.

The position is full-time, initially Monday to Friday including monthly rostered weekends required with the preference to transition to a rostered arrangement for the right person.

About the Role

Working closely with Management, Operations and HR, you will be responsible for attracting, screening and coordinating suitable personnel for our civil construction projects.

Responsibilities

- Working closely with project teams to understand upcoming workforce requirements
- Managing recruitment campaigns from advertising through to placement
- Writing and managing SEEK and other recruitment advertisements
- Proactively sourcing operators, supervisors, tradespeople and other project personnel
- Screening applications and conducting initial candidate interviews
- Completing reference checks and coordinating pre‑employment requirements
- Checking operator RIIs and other competency requirements against project requirements
- Maintaining an active database and pipeline of suitable candidates
- Developing new ideas and strategies to improve recruitment outcomes
- Building relationships with candidates and maintaining a strong labour network
- Assisting HR with employee onboarding and mobilisation
- Monitoring employee skills, competencies,



licences and qualifications through the Skills Register
- Monitoring expiry dates and following up outstanding compliance documentation
- Coordinating and assisting with flights, travel and accommodation bookings
- Assisting with general HR and workforce administration as required

About You

Previous recruitment experience is essential , ideally within civil construction, mining, earthmoving, infrastructure, labour hire or a similar high‑volume operational environment.

Requirements

- Can work effectively in a fast‑paced and changing environment
- Understands construction and blue‑collar recruitment
- Is confident recruiting plant operators and construction personnel
- Has strong communication and candidate management skills
- Is organised and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Has excellent attention to detail, particularly around employee compliance
- Is comfortable working independently and taking ownership of recruitment
- Can identify problems and implement practical solutions
- Is willing to bring their own skill set, ideas and recruitment strategies to the business
- Understands that filling positions is only part of the role — ensuring people are qualified, compliant and ready to mobilise is equally important
- Experience recruiting excavator, dozer, grader, roller, water cart, articulated dump truck and other heavy equipment operators will be highly regarded.
