Samphire Wild, the sustainable cattle operations company under the Forever Wild Initiative, has an opening for a Landscape Overseer based at Challa Station, Western Australia.
The role is located within an extraordinary landscape, helping:
- Lead the production of high-quality, ecologically sound beef across a herd of 3000 head
- Support the conservation of multiple rare and threatened species
- Use and maintain large earth-moving equipment for landscape rehabilitation

Property Description
The job is based at Challa Station,a beautiful 200,000ha propertythat produces high-quality beef cattle under a conservation management plan. However, the role works with the Livestock & Operations team and other staff to help oversee cattle and conservation operationsacross the entire 600,000ha landscape,including the aggregation of Meeline, Boodanoo and Narndee Stations.
The air-conditioned homestead is well-appointed, with a swimming pool, tennis court and only 60km from Mount Magnet town.

Key Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities
- Working under the Livestock & Operations team, the position is responsible for overseeing cattle and land management activities, and leading and coordinating staff to execute operational plans across the aggregated Challa, Meeline and Narndee/Boodanoo Stations, and manage best practices in animal welfare and quality assurance.
- Ensure accurate record keeping – i.e. cattle numbers and movements, vaccination records, time sheets, and bore records.
- Oversee and manage maintenance of fences, yards, and watering points, and general infrastructure maintenance.
- Conduct heavy machinery operations, including for contracts on-station. Ensure machinery is fully up to spec and maintained, with service intervals and records.
- Support the science team in the field to engage in monitoring and applied conservation works for species and habitat condition, including landscape rehabilitation, and surveys.
- Be competent in the use of laptops and in written communication through emails. Competent use of tools such as AgriWeb and Microsoft for reporting and basic data input.
- Lead with a focus on safety, performance, and integrity.
- Maintain a positive and professional image for the Forever Wild Initiative.
Job Requirements
Essential
- Demonstrated experience in remote landscapes and relevant health & safety practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work under remote guidance as part of the Livestock & Operations team, with integrity and timeliness.
- Minimum three years’ experience in rural industry and demonstrated experience in cattle handling.
- Excellent organisational skills overseeing day-to-day planning, within a logistically busy and diverse environment.
- Competent and experienced on motorbikes.
- Moderate to high levels of physical fitness to undertake station work.
- The ability to lead and supervise a small team, working to a budget and a timeline.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively manage and coordinate with staff and management.
- Sustainable rangeland management experience or knowledge, or applied conservation knowledge.
- Current manual driver’s licence.
- HR licence or (ability to obtain one within 6 months).
- Competent operator of heavy machinery, including maintenance and relevant tickets / ability to obtain tickets and learn.
Desirable
- HC /MC Licence
- Machinery tickets
- Degree ( or Diploma) in agriculture (focus on regenerative) OR conservation biology OR other land management
