About the Company

Our client is a highly respected Tier 1 mechanical services contractor that has been delivering exceptional building services solutions throughout Australia for more than a decade.

Specialising in mechanical HVAC construction and maintenance, the business delivers complex projects across commercial office fit-outs, healthcare, education, industrial facilities, residential developments and large-scale commercial construction.

Due to continued growth and an expanding project portfolio, they are seeking an experienced Design Manager or Senior Mechanical HVAC Engineer ready to step into a leadership position.

Reporting directly to senior management, you will take ownership of the mechanical design function, overseeing engineering delivery, design approvals and technical leadership across multiple high-value HVAC projects.

The Role

As the Design Manager, you will be responsible for leading the mechanical engineering design team and ensuring the successful delivery of HVAC projects from concept through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and manage a team of Mechanical Engineers, Draftspersons and Design Support staff

- Oversee the design and engineering delivery of commercial HVAC projects across multiple sectors

- Review, approve and sign off mechanical design documentation

- Collaborate with Construction Managers, Estimators, Project Managers and Directors to ensure seamless project delivery

- Manage engineering resources, project priorities and design programmes

- Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation and management reports

- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards

- Manage design variations, value engineering initiatives and technical problem solving

- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and subcontractors

- Drive continuous improvement across engineering processes and design standards

Selection Criteria

To be considered for this opportunity, you will possess:





- Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering

- 5–10+ years' experience within commercial HVAC or mechanical building services

- Previous experience in a Design Manager, Senior Mechanical Engineer or Lead HVAC Engineer role

- Strong technical knowledge of commercial HVAC systems and Australian Standards

- Demonstrated experience managing engineering teams and coordinating multiple projects

- Proven ability to manage design changes, variations and engineering approvals

- Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills

- Current Australian Driver's Licence

- Full Australian working rights

- Ability to provide two recent professional references
