Business Operations Manager
Team leadership, operational delivery and continuous improvement

Velg Training is looking for an experienced and hands‑on Business Operations Manager to lead the day‑to‑day operations of our small team at Banyo on Brisbane’s northside.
This is a varied role for someone who enjoys being close to the work. You will lead a small team, coordinate operational delivery across the business and help us improve how we plan, communicate and work together.

Velg Training is a member-serving organisation and one of Australia’s leading providers of professional development to the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector.

About the role
Reporting to the Director of Content and Strategy, you will be responsible for the people, processes and practical coordination that keep Velg Training operating effectively.
The Director of Content and Strategy will continue to lead business and product strategy, VET knowledge, compliance content, webinars, templates, courses and other professional development products.
Your role will be to turn agreed priorities into organised plans, explicit responsibilities, realistic timelines and high-quality delivery.
As our Business Operations Manager, you will:
- lead and support a small team, coordinating workloads, priorities, regular check-ins and day-to-day performance
- translate business priorities into practical operational plans, timelines and responsibilities while monitoring progress and resolving issues
- oversee the operational delivery of webinars, professional development programs, membership activities and other Velg Training services
- lead the operational planning and delivery of the annual National VET Conference, including timelines, registrations, communications, presenters, suppliers and logistics
- coordinate approved marketing activity across email, website, social media and other channels, ensuring communications and online information remain accurate and current
- monitor registrations, engagement, customer feedback, expenditure and operational performance, providing useful observations and reports to the management team
- improve procedures, systems and workflows, including identifying practical opportunities to use automation, technology and AI
- manage customer escalations and external suppliers where required while contributing ideas to improve services, customer experience and business operations
This is not a specialist VET compliance role, and you will not be expected to develop technical VET content.
About you
You are likely to be someone who:
- has at least five years’ experience in business operations, project delivery, program coordination, office management or a similar role
- has experience leading, supervising or coaching a small team and enjoys helping people perform well
- is highly organised and can manage several priorities, projects and deadlines without losing sight of the details
- can turn broad ideas into practical actions, realistic timelines and clear responsibilities
- communicates naturally and professionally, raises issues early and keeps relevant people informed
- takes ownership,
follows work through and uses sound judgement when making decisions or escalating concerns
- is confident using business software and comfortable learning website, CRM, email marketing, event and customer-management platforms
- can review operational information, customer feedback, budgets and campaign results and explain what they may be telling us
- enjoys working in a small business where roles are varied, people help each other and practical ideas are welcomed
- Experience in a membership organisation, professional association, education or training provider, or another small service‑based business would be highly regarded.
- Experience coordinating professional development or membership programs would also be valuable.
Location and working arrangements
This is a full‑time position based at:9 Froude Street, Banyo QLD 4014
The usual hours are7.30 am to 3.30 pm, Monday to Friday.
Full‑time attendance in the office is required. This is not a hybrid or remote position.
