Primary objective
Lead and manage the agency’s statutory information access function, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, while
contributing to governance, compliance, integrity and continuous improvement activities that strengthen transparency,
accountability and organisational capability.
Context statement
The role has primary carriage of statutory information access processes and provides advice on information access, privacy and
information management obligations. The position also contributes to governance,



compliance and assurance activities, including
training, awareness, targeted reviews and continuous improvement initiatives. The role operates with a high degree of autonomy
and engages with senior stakeholders on complex and sensitive matters.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and manage the statutory information access functions, including end-to-end management, ensuring compliance

with legislative requirements, quality decision-making and adherence to timeframes.
2. Provide high-level advice on legislative, regulatory and governance matters relating to information access, privacy and

information management.
3. Prepare and manage high level documentation, including briefs and formal correspondence.
4. Support compliance and assurance activities, including targeted reviews, monitoring, and reporting.
5. Design and implement training, guidance and awareness initiatives to build organisational capability in information

access, privacy, compliance, and valuable governance practices.
6. Support the management of information-related risks and incidents, including contributing to data breach response

processes and reporting obligations.
7. Build and sustain strategic relationships with internal stakeholders and external oversight bodies.
8.



Identify emerging risks, trends and opportunities, to strengthen governance, compliance, privacy and information

management maturity across the agency.
9. Assist with governance and assurance projects and activities.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience leading or managing legislative, regulatory or governance functions, including interpreting and

applying legislation and frameworks in practice.
2. Highly developed analytical, research, critical thinking and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare

and quality assure complex briefs, reports and decision documents.
3. Demonstrated ability to provide high-level advice, exercise sound judgement on complex or sensitive matters, and

influence outcomes through effective stakeholder engagement.
4. Experience undertaking compliance, assurance or review activities within a regulatory or governance environment

supporting continuous improvement.
5. Demonstrated ability to design and deliver training, guidance or capability-building initiatives.
6. Strong organisational management skills, including the ability to manage competing priorities, statutory timeframes and

high-volume workflows.
7. Demonstrated integrity, professionalism and discretion, with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential

information.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of information access, privacy, information management, or public sector compliance environments.
2. Relevant qualifications in law, governance, public administration, or a related discipline.
