About the Opportunity
MGC are seeking an experienced Project Engineers to join our team and support delivery of major projects in Queensland and regional NSW based out of our Brisbane office.
We are looking for candidates who have 5 – 10 years’ experience working within brownfield rail projects (QR, Aurizon, Inland Rail, and ARTC Networks) who can demonstrate strong leadership, coordination, technical expertise, and a commitment to continuous improvement, safety, quality, and compliance in a fast paced and operationally critical environment.
Your day-to-day activities will include:
- Applying a deeper understanding of Engineering principles to devise and deliver practical and economical solutions to problems and efficient project execution.
- Become involved in coordinated rail shutdowns or track possessions including planning and interface with clients and Tier 1 Contractors in support of T-minus applications in the lead up.
- Develop technical reports, planning proposals, and verification activities to ensure MGCS adheres to Clients’ communication, quality, and compliance requirements.
- Liaise with clients, supervisors and teams to ensure safety compliance and the creation of a safe working environment.
- Ensure safety risks are mitigated in a proactive manner and demonstrate strong safety leadership to Clients and with internal teams.
- Participate in safety initiatives in assigned projects, reviewing incidents, and implementing approved measures and controls from lessons learnt.
- Strong project planning skills using Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and can demonstrate how this is linked to the Scope of Works as well as its relationship to project control activities e.g. forecasts, risk register, and schedule. MS Project – required competency level: Advanced.
- Plan and execute construction and maintenance projects considering safety, environmental, cost, quality & engineering considerations.
- Undertake project management activities including scoping, budgets, documentation for track, civil, and rail systems project delivery.
- Lead planning activities appreciating the dependencies between activities as well as the staging of the works with the ability to obtain inputs and gain buy-ins from internal stakeholders.
- Ensure risk assessment techniques are adopted during the planning and execution process.
- Develop and review maintenance and engineering standards, procedures, and work instructions.
- Provide technical advice to maintenance personnel including maintenance partners.
- Troubleshoot issues and engage in continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage client relationships, suppliers, and third-party contractors as required per contractual and commercial requirements.
- Completion of Quality Assurance processes - ITP's, method statements, site records, audits & other project documentation.
- Team player and open to mentoring and coaching support from Senior Engineers and Managers in the team.

About you
You’re a proactive, organised, solutions-focused,
and commercially adept professional who thrives in a fast-paced and high-performing working environment.
You will bring:
- Bachelor's degree in civil and electrical engineering or a related field,
- Minimum 5-10 years' experience in track, civil and systems engineering across maintenance, renewal, investigation, standards development, or technical governance functions.
- Demonstrated experience leading site engineers, trade supervisors, or multidisciplinary technical work in an operational rail environment.
- Working knowledge of engineering principles, track geometry, consolidated services routes (CSR) e.g. pit and pipe trench construction, formation build, and drainage and structure interfaces.
- Prior experience in drainage and structures construction work (e.g. FRP in bored foundation and trackside assets’ pad foundations) within rail environment will be highly valued.
- Demonstrated experience in scoping, forecasting, risk management, and technical report writing.
- Sound knowledge of QR, Aurizon, ARTC, or comparable Australian rail standards, relevant AS/NZS (e.g. AS 3000, RISSB, etc) specifications, and industry code of practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and influence decision-making processes.
- Current C Class driver's licence. MS suite experience essential.
