The Aerodrome Platform team is responsible for the ongoing management, maintenance and sustainment of technology systems that form part of Australia’s National Airways System (NAS). These critical systems are deployed across airports and aerodromes throughout Australia and support international partners across the aviation industry.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on mission-critical aviation and communications systems, applying your systems engineering expertise across the full technology lifecycle.

About the role

As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the technical implementation, sustainment, enhancement and ongoing performance of operational airways and communications systems.

You will ensure these systems meet agreed technical performance requirements while continuing to deliver safe, reliable and resilient services to the aviation industry.

You will work across the complete systems engineering lifecycle, including:

- Requirements definition, system design, integration, verification and validation
- Technical implementation, system upgrades and ongoing sustainment
- System performance monitoring, analysis and reporting
- Complex fault investigation, diagnosis and resolution
- Development of technical specifications, standards and engineering documentation
- Configuration management of hardware, software, firmware and documentation
- System testing, including test plans, test cases and validation activities
- Technical oversight of system changes and enhancements
- Engineering feasibility studies, proposals and cost estimates
- Provision of specialist technical advice to projects and stakeholders
- Maintaining technical integrity and software assurance at the system level
- Monitoring emerging aviation, telecommunications and technology developments

What you'll be doing

Working within the Airservices Technology Management Framework (TMF), you will:





- Design and develop technical specifications and standards aligned to customer and operational requirements.
- Conduct detailed investigations and analysis of complex system issues and implement appropriate solutions.
- Prepare and execute test plans and test cases for recent implementations, enhancements and software updates.
- Analyse system performance data, identify trends and recommend improvements to reliability and maintainability.
- Develop and maintain system requirements specifications, Statements of Requirements, project proposals, cost estimates and engineering management documentation.
- Contribute to Systems Engineering Management Plans and Test and Evaluation Master Plans.
- Maintain comprehensive engineering and technical documentation.
- Provide specialist systems engineering expertise across projects and operational activities.
- Participate in cross-training to develop specialist skills across aviation technologies.
- Maintain awareness of relevant industry standards, regulations and emerging technologies.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, engineering teams, suppliers and technology vendors.

About you

You are an experienced Systems Engineer with a strong background in telecommunications, communications systems or complex operational technology environments.
You will bring:

- A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Demonstrated experience applying Systems Engineering practices across system design, verification, validation and management.
- Experience designing, developing, testing and implementing robust and reliable telecommunications systems.
- Strong knowledge of quality assurance and configuration management principles.
- High-level knowledge of analogue voice audio components and circuitry,



including analogue DC control and monitoring signalling components and circuitry.
- Demonstrated stakeholder and vendor management experience.
- The ability to take ownership of technical tasks and deliver outcomes with limited direction.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills, including solution architecture and system design documentation.
- The ability to work effectively within a dynamic, multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Highly desirable

- Registration as a Professional Engineer in a relevant discipline, such as RPEQ.
- Experience designing, maintaining and supporting:
- N-tier architectures and distributed systems
- Real-time systems
- Message-handling systems
- Internet technologies

- Awareness of the Information Security Manual (ISM) and experience applying relevant security controls.
- Awareness of DO-278A, software assurance levels and associated processes and artefacts.
- Experience working within safety-critical or highly regulated environments.

Systems Engineering capability The role operates at Technology Professional Band 2 (TP2) and aligns to relevant SFIA capabilities, including:

- System Design (DESN) – Level 3
- Safety Engineering (SFEN) – Level 3
- Testing (TEST) – Level 4
- Systems Integration (SINT) – Level 4
- Systems Installation/Decommissioning (HSIN) – Level 3
- Release & Deployment (RELM) – Level 4
- Change Control (CHMG) – Level 3
- Problem Management (PBMG) – Level 3
