About the role:
We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join our team at the Karlawinda Gold Project. This permanent full-time position will support safe delivery of site activities while working an even-time 2:2 roster.
Reporting to the Health and Safety Superintendent, the successful applicant will provide practical advice, coaching and assurance to leaders, employees and contractors. The role will have a strong field presence and support the effective implementation and continuous improvement of the Mine Safety Management System.
This position is well suited to a proactive and approachable safety professional who can build trusted relationships, communicate clearly and follow issues through to completion in a remote, fast-paced mining environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide practical health and safety advice, coaching and support to site leaders, supervisors, employees and contractors.
- Maintain a visible field presence through workplace interactions, inspections and verification of critical controls.
- Support teams to identify hazards, assess risks and develop effective controls through risk assessments, JHAs, SOP’s, SWMS and other site processes.
- Support the implementation, review and continuous improvement of the Mine Safety Management System, standards, procedures and supporting documentation.
- Facilitate and participate in incident investigations, identify underlying causes and ensure corrective actions are practical, assigned and closed out.
- Support contractor health and safety management, including mobilisation, compliance monitoring and field assurance activities.
- Conduct and support audits, inspections and assurance activities against legislative, company and site requirements.
- Prepare health and safety reports, analyse performance trends and identify opportunities for risk reduction and improvement.
- Support safety meetings, toolbox communications, workforce consultation and Health and Safety Representative activities.
- Assist with injury management, return-to-work arrangements and emergency preparedness activities as required
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or a higher relevant qualification.
- Minimum three years’ health and safety advisory experience in mining, resources, construction or another comparable high‑risk industry.
- Previous operational mine-site experience is strongly preferred.
- Practical working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 (WA), Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022, relevant Codes of Practice and Australian Standards.
- ICAM (or equivalent) investigation training and practical experience in investigations, risk assessment, inspections, auditing and corrective‑action management.
- Strong communication, coaching and influencing skills, with the confidence to engage effectively at all levels.
- Sound reporting and data‑analysis skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and health and safety management systems.
- Lead Auditor, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, First Aid and emergency‑response qualifications are desirable.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
