Job Description

DHANOA TRADERS PTY LTD trading as Bush Capital Coatings is seeking an experienced and reliable Painter to join its team in Canberra, ACT. The successful applicant will undertake a broad range of commercial and residential painting work, including surface preparation, interior and exterior painting, application of decorative and protective coatings, and finishing work. The role requires strong technical painting skills, attention to detail and the ability to consistently deliver high-quality finishes while complying with workplace health and safety requirements and project specifications.

Task & responsibilities

- Erect scaffolding, ladders and other access equipment as required to safely undertake painting work.
- Prepare surfaces for painting by removing old paint and coatings, cleaning, sanding, scraping, filling cracks and holes, and carrying out minor surface repairs.
- Remove wallpaper and other existing finishes where required and prepare walls and other surfaces for new coatings.
- Apply primers,



sealers and undercoats to ensure surfaces are properly prepared for final coatings.
- Select, mix and match paints, pigments and other coating materials to achieve required colours, shades and finishes.
- Apply paints, stains, varnishes, protective coatings and decorative finishes to interior and exterior surfaces.
- Apply coatings using brushes, rollers and spray-painting equipment according to project requirements.
- Complete commercial and residential painting work across walls, ceilings and other building surfaces.
- Interpret job specifications, colour schedules, plans and client instructions to determine painting and finishing requirements.
- Protect floors, furniture, fittings, windows and surrounding areas before commencing preparation and painting work.
- Apply decorative and protective finishes, including specialised coatings where required.
- Inspect completed work for consistency, coverage and finish quality, identify defects and complete necessary touch-ups.
- Calculate and manage painting materials required for individual jobs while minimising unnecessary wastage.
- Safely operate and maintain painting tools, ladders, scaffolding, elevated work platforms and associated equipment.
- Maintain clean, organised and safe worksites throughout each project.




- Complete assigned painting work within agreed project schedules while maintaining required workmanship and safety standards.
- Comply with workplace health and safety requirements, including applicable asbestos and silica safety procedures.

Qualification & experience

- Certificate III in Painting and Decorating, or an equivalent relevant trade qualification.
- Minimum 1–2 years of relevant commercial painting experience.
- Demonstrated experience in surface preparation and the application of interior and exterior paint and coating systems.
- Strong practical knowledge of paints, primers, sealers, stains, varnishes and protective coating systems.
- Experience using brushes, rollers, spray-painting equipment and other skilled painting tools.
- Ability to produce smooth, consistent and high-quality finishes.
- Ability to interpret job instructions, plans, specifications and colour schedules.
- Valid Construction Industry White Card.
- Asbestos Awareness Training and Silica Awareness Training.
- Current driver's licence and reliable transport.
- Ability to pass a National Police Check.
- Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Strong time-management skills and ability to complete work within project deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Ability to follow workplace health and safety procedures.
- Physical fitness and ability to undertake manual work, including working safely at heights.
- Reliable, punctual and professional approach when working at client premises.
