The Role
Your role at HQJOC is primarily as a Security Officer (SO) but you will also assist as a Deputy Communications Intelligence Security Officer (COMSO), reporting directly to the HQJOC Security Manager. The position supports security governance, compliance, and risk management activities that protect Defence personnel, information, assets, and facilities. Key responsibilities include conducting security inspections and audits, maintaining security records and procedures, delivering security awareness training, providing security advice, and assisting with security incident investigations.
As the HQJOC D/COMSO, you are responsible for assisting with compliance for personnel requiring compartmented access, delivering mandatory security briefings, and developing briefing programs that support the annual HQJOC induction cycle.
The role ensures compliance with Defence security policies and Physical Security Zone requirements and requires the ability to maintain a Positive Vetting (PV) clearance. Strong communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to meet demanding and short-notice operational requirements are essential to supporting HQJOC operations.
About our Team
The HQJOC Security Operations (SEC OPS) Team is led by the Security Manager and forms part of the Chief of Staff Branch. The team consists of the Security Manager, Security Officer, Communications Security Officer (COMSO), Deputy Communications Security Officer (D/COMSO) and Visits Clerk. The team manages daily visitor access to HQJOC, supports security compliance, and promotes a strong security culture through security awareness, advice, and adherence to Defence security requirements. SEC OPS plays a key role in protecting personnel, information, assets, and facilities, while supporting HQJOC operations.
Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate holds a PV clearance and will be a proactive and adaptable security professional with a demonstrated understanding of Defence Physical Security requirements. They will be a proven self-starter, capable of operating independently, prioritising competing demands, and exercising sound judgement in the protection of government intelligence, classified information, and physical security environments. Robust decision-making skills and the ability to respond effectively to evolving operational requirements are essential.
