Barnardos Australia is seeking a dedicated Counsellor to join our Connecting 3 dots program in Mudgee, 2850. This is a part-time, contract opportunity to be part of a values-led organisation committed to making a real difference in the lives of children and families.

This is a part-time role, offering the flexibility to work 3 or 4 days per week, on a contract until July 2028.

About the Role
As a Counsellor, you will:

- Provide a therapeutic relationship safe, trusting and collaborative connection between the counsellor, the child and their caregiver. This relationship provides the foundation for healing, enabling children to build emotional safety, develop resilience, strengthen emotional regulation and process, at their pace, the impacts of an adult's choice to use violence.
- Work in partnership with caregivers, the child’s safe network and other Barnardos support services, to deliver evidence-informed therapeutic interventions, including individual and group-based supports, that promote healing.
- Work collaboratively with the broader multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated, holistic and culturally safe service delivery (Allied Health and ACCOS).
- Monitor child protection concerns, consult with Program Manager and act in accordance with the appropriate State legislation, Mandatory Reporting Guides and Barnardos Australia Safeguarding Policies and Procedures.
- Maintain respectful written and electronic records in accordance with Barnardos policies and -procedures and any external requirements.

You’ll join a collaborative and supportive team delivering high-quality, trauma-informed services that uphold child safety, cultural safety, and family-led practice.

Skills and Experience :

- Relevant tertiary qualification in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, Psychotherapy or a related discipline.
- Eligibility for membership with an appropriate professional body (e.g. Australian Counselling Association, Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia, Australian Association of Social Workers, or AHPRA where applicable).
- Strong knowledge of the dynamics and impacts of domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV), developmental trauma and complex trauma on children and young people.
- Understanding of neuro-affirming therapeutic practice and the ability to adapt interventions to meet the individual needs of children and young people with disability.
- Demonstrated experience delivering trauma-informed counselling and therapeutic interventions tailored to individual needs.
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families, and communities, including a robust understanding of cultural safety, self-determination, and the historical and contemporary factors that impact Aboriginal peoples.

What’s on Offer:
Base salary: $50.71 per hour+ 12% superannuation
Salary packaging: Up to $15,860 tax-free (general living expenses)
Meal & entertainment packaging: Additional $2,650 tax-free per FBT year
