Indoor Environmental Consultant - Melbourne
Melbourne Metropolitan Area | Full-Time | Field-Based
Ready to move into environmental consulting?
RCA Services is looking for an experienced restoration or environmental professional to join our Melbourne team as an Indoor Environmental Consultant.
This position is particularly suited to an experienced individual who has developed a strong understanding of water damage, fire and smoke damage, moisture behaviour, mould, building materials and property damage restoration, and is ready to take the next step into the assessment and consulting side of the building and restoration industry.
You’ll be investigating buildings following water, fire and other property damage events, determining the extent of impact, collecting and interpreting environmental data, developing remediation and restoration recommendations, and verifying that works have been completed appropriately.
Previous experience as a Restoration Professional, Occupational Hygienist, Environmental Consultant or Building Biologist is highly regarded.
The Role
You’ll work independently across residential and commercial properties throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, as well as interstate as required, undertaking inspections and technical assessments associated with water damage, fire and smoke damage, mould, contamination and other indoor environmental and property damage conditions within the built environment.
The role may also involve deployment to major loss and catastrophe events, providing assessment and technical support following significant storms, floods, fires and other property damage events.
Your work will include:
- Mould and moisture assessments
- Water-damage investigations and moisture mapping
- Fire and smoke damage assessments
- Assessment of soot, smoke residues, odour and fire-related contamination
- General property damage and disaster assessments
- Post-Remediation Verification (PRV) inspections
- Indoor environmental and indoor air quality assessments
- Environmental air and surface sampling
- Thermal imaging and moisture detection
- Assessing building materials and potential contamination pathways
- Determining the extent of affected areas following water, fire and other loss events
- Developing remediation and restoration scopes and technical recommendations
- Assessing restoration and remediation requirements
- Documenting findings through photographs, measurements and field observations
- Preparing professional technical reports
- Liaising with insurers, loss adjusters, builders, restoration contractors, property managers and occupants
- Providing independent technical advice throughout the assessment, remediation and restoration process
- Supporting major loss and catastrophe response projects where required
Coming From Restoration?
If you've spent years attending water, fire, mould or other property damage losses, setting up drying equipment, moisture mapping, managing remediation, assessing fire and smoke impacts or supervising restoration projects, you may already have much of the practical knowledge we're looking for.
We're interested in people who understand how buildings respond to water, fire and other damage; how moisture moves through structures; how smoke and contamination migrate; and what is required to properly remediate and restore affected environments.
We'll help the right candidate develop that practical experience into a broader indoor environmental and property damage consulting skillset.
This is an opportunity to move away from primarily performing restoration works and towards investigation, assessment, scoping, verification and technical consulting.
Who We’re Looking For
Applicants must have previous professional experience in at least one of the following:
- Water damage restoration
- Fire and smoke restoration
- Mould remediation
- General disaster or property damage restoration
- Restoration supervision or project management
- Occupational hygiene
- Environmental consulting
- Building biology
- Indoor environmental assessment
Experience with moisture meters, thermal imaging, structural drying, fire and smoke damage, environmental sampling, mould assessment, remediation scoping or PRV inspections will be highly regarded.
Relevant qualifications or certifications through IICRC, ACAC or recognised occupational hygiene, environmental science or building biology programs are advantageous, but practical industry experience is equally significant.
The successful candidate should be comfortable working independently in the field and travelling throughout Victoria. Interstate travel and deployment to catastrophe or major loss events may also be required from time to time.
A current Australian driver's licence is required.
