Job Description

Our client is a well-established manufacturer of Magnesium Oxide and Magnesium Carbonate and is seeking an Assistant Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Young, NSW.
Reporting to the Plant Manager/Managing Director, you will work closely with plant operators and maintenance tradespeople to support the protected, reliable and efficient operation of a busy chemical manufacturing facility. Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience), plus superannuation. About the Role
This hands-on position is suited to an engineer with experience in heavy industrial or chemical manufacturing who enjoys working in a practical production environment. You will assist with maintaining plant reliability, supporting maintenance activities and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. Qualifications, Experience & Skills
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum two (2) years' experience in a 24/7 chemical manufacturing environment involving rotary and vertical shaft kilns.
- Strong ability to work effectively within a team.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise competing tasks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience with CAD and ERP software (desirable).
Key Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include:
- Assist with the design and construction of equipment used for calcination of minerals, material conveying and handling, crushing, sieving, grinding and packaging.
- Supervise the dismantling, refurbishment, assembly, installation and commissioning of plant and equipment.
- Inspect plant and equipment to ensure optimum performance, including completion of operational, maintenance and housekeeping inspections.
- Assist in planning and supervising preventative maintenance programs while implementing strategies to minimise equipment breakdowns.
- Maintain inventory levels of critical spare parts.
- Attend site outside normal working hours when equipment failures require urgent attention.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and compliance documentation.
- Supervise maintenance personnel and contractors to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
- Liaise with internal departments and external suppliers to support maintenance, procurement and continuous improvement projects.
