Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Senior Workshop Technician - Fabrication to join Faculty Operations, Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice.

The Senior Workshop Technician – Workshops and Fabrication provides highly specialised technical expertise and support for fabrication activities that underpin the Faculty’s teaching, research and creative practice programs. Working closely with academic staff, researchers, professional staff and students, the role delivers technical instruction, fabrication services and workshop support across a range of equipment, technologies and processes, while ensuring safe, effective and sustainable workshop operations. The position also contributes to the continuous improvement of technical services, supports complex creative and research projects, and assists in maintaining high-quality learning environments that enhance the student experience.

The Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice is led by the Executive Dean and the Faculty Executive team comprising the Executive Dean, Deputy Dean, Heads of School, Associate Dean Learning and Teaching, Associate Dean Research, and Director of Operations. Our faculty comprises of five schools:

- School of Communication
- School of Creative Arts
- School of Design
- School of Education
- School of Justice.

What you need to succeed

- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to a Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline with subsequent relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training involving creative production, and workshop studio management.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues, including within teams in a creative environment, and internal and external clients, suppliers and other staff within the Faculty.
- Ability to develop creative and novel solutions to achieve continuous improvement.
- Well-developed demonstration and technical advice delivery skills,



and the ability to apply specialist knowledge and skills in educational environments to assist in the identification and resolution of issues.
- Demonstrated specialist understanding of a broad range of equipment and processes and their practical application within a learning environment. Including applying engineering principals to concepts, operating and demonstrating industrial machines, welding equipment, paint and finish equipment, and processes for print making, ceramics, sculpture, 3D fabrication and design prototyping.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately review and interpret instructions of a conceptual nature; to relate relevant knowledge to relevant disciplines, and to produce technical reports, communications and documentation to a high standard.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and Indigenous Australian engagement.
