The Opportunity
Join the Faculty of Science at Monash University’s School of Physics and Astronomy and contribute to cutting-edge research in experimental condensed matter physics, surface science and atomically thin quantum materials.
As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will investigate the electronic properties of two-dimensional materials, thin-film heterostructures and magnetic topological insulators, with a focus on applications in low-energy electronics. You will work across advanced fabrication and characterisation facilities at Monash University and the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication, alongside low-temperature, high-magnetic-field cryogenic facilities at Monash.
About the role
- Conduct experimental research in condensed matter physics and surface science
- Grow and fabricate 2D materials and thin-film heterostructures using molecular beam epitaxy, exfoliation and/or stacking techniques
- Fabricate devices and undertake low-temperature electrical transport measurements on electrostatically gated devices
- Fabricate and characterise novel quantum materials, including magnetic topological insulators
- Publish research in high-impact journals and present findings at major conferences and workshops
- Contribute to the supervision and mentoring of PhD and Honours students
About you
You will hold a PhD in physics, materials science, engineering or a related discipline, with demonstrated experience in experimental condensed matter physics, surface science or a related field.
You will have relevant expertise in 2D materials or heterostructure fabrication, device fabrication and low-temperature electrical transport measurements, together with a strong research publication record and ability to work collaboratively.
