Working out of a North Melbourne, we are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director – Workplace Health, Safety & Environment (WHS&E;) to lead and elevate our Business safety, health, and environmental function.
Reporting to Head of People & Compliance, this role is responsible for shaping and delivering the organisation’s WHS strategy, governance framework, and safety culture. You will provide executive leadership across all operations, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements while driving continuous improvement in safety performance and risk management.
This is a critical leadership role, partnering closely with the Board and senior executives to embed a proactive, risk-based approach to WHS&E.;
Key Responsibilities
In this role you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the Aldus Safety Management System, governance, reporting activities.
Lead the development and execution of the organisation’s WHS&E; strategy
Establish and oversee enterprise-wide governance, assurance, and audit frameworks
Provide expert advice to the Board and Executive on WHS risks, obligations, and emerging trends
Drive continuous improvement and innovation in safety systems and performance
Ensure compliance with WHS legislation and regulatory requirements
Oversee safety audits, inspections, and assurance activities across all business units
Lead investigations into critical incidents,
ensuring effective root cause analysis and corrective actions
Manage enterprise safety risks including high-risk, contractor, and supply chain activities
Deliver clear, data-driven WHS reporting to executive and Board stakeholders
Monitor performance trends and identify opportunities for improvement
Embed a culture of proactive risk identification and mitigation
Define and lead the organisation’s WHS&E; capability and training strategy
Champion a strong safety culture and leadership accountability across all levels
Coach and influence business leaders to drive ownership of safety outcomes
About You
You are an experienced and influential WHS executive with a strong track record of leading safety strategy and performance in complex environments.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced WHS person who has been in a similar role plus:
Bachelor’s Degree in OHS, or other related discipline or Post Graduate Degree in OHS
Considerable OHS experience leading projects & services performance initiatives
Demonstrate ability to develop strategic vision and motivation teams to fulfil the objectives
Certificate or other related course in any other safety related area (e.g. Auditing, Hygiene etc.)
Lead Auditor or working towards registration with Exemplar Global
Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Strong knowledge and understanding of Work Health and Safety and Occupational Health and Safety legislation
Knowledge of good practice OHS management approaches including OHS Management Systems
Knowledge and skills in contemporary OHS management practices including hazard management, incident investigation, risk assessment, safety communication, training and people engagement processes
Well-developed verbal communication and interpersonal interaction skills
Strong writing skills including the ability to prepare and adapt reports to suit client needs
Strong organisational and time management skills
Ability to complete work within the identified timeframes when required due to urgency or peak demand periods
