About the role
The Site Engineer is responsible for providing technical support, quality assurance and engineering direction to ensure works are executed in accordance with design drawings, technical specifications and project standards. Working closely with the Project Manager and Site Supervisor, the Site Engineer oversees setting out, material compliance, inspection and test plans (ITPs), quantity surveying and subcontractor technical coordination.
Key responsibilities
- Interpret and apply construction drawings, technical specifications, and contract documentation.
- Perform and coordinate surveying, site layout, leveling and setting out of earthworks, drainage, pavement and structural elements.
- Identify design discrepancies, constructability issues or site variations and prepare Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Monitor technical execution in office to ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., council, TfNSW/RMS, ISO standards).
- Prepare,
implement and maintain Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality checklists and Lot tracking registers.
- Conduct joint site inspections and coordinate third-party testing (e.g., soil compaction, concrete strength, asphalt testing).
- Identify non-conformances, issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and manage corrective and preventative action plans.
- Measure, track and verify installed quantities for monthly progress claims, subcontractor payment certificates, and variation claims.
- Assist with material procurement to ensure technical submittals and product approvals are finalized prior to delivery.
- Maintain daily engineering records, photo records, and test registers that are accurate, complete, and timely.
Required Qualifications & Credentials
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
- 2–5 years' experience as a Site / Graduate Engineer in civil construction (earthworks, drainage, pavement, services, or concrete structures)
- Strong computer skills in MS Office (Excel), MS Project or Primavera P6, AutoCAD, and modern QA software
- Valid Driver's Licence and General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
- Hands-on experience with GPS survey equipment, total stations, and drone mapping.
