As part of the Digital Platform team within IT & Change, you’ll work at the direction of the Cloud Engineering Lead to support PetSure’s “Always On / Always Available” strategy through cloud adoption, application modernisation and strong database engineering practices.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll build, host and administer cloud data platforms, data warehouse applications and processes, database applications and automated CI/CD pipelines, while helping PetSure keep its digital applications on modern PaaS, serverless and cloud platforms across Azure and AWS
What You’ll Do:
• Act as the SME for PetSure’s data, database and reporting technologies.
• Own and support the data strategy and technology roadmap for database systems, working with partners, customers and internal stakeholders.
• Provide operational support and ensure the availability of business-critical database systems, including incident resolution, root cause analysis and service request management.
• Design, build and support reliable, fit-for-purpose database and data solutions that perform well with large data volumes and complex insights.
• Support data flows between applications, data warehouses and reporting systems in line with PetSure’s information and data architecture strategy.
• Establish and apply information architecture, data management and database engineering standards across the business.
• Build, host and administer cloud data platforms, data warehouse applications, database applications and automated CI/CD pipelines.
• Work with business teams, business analysts, test engineers and platform architects to deliver enterprise-grade systems and maintain clear platform documentation.
• Monitor and respond to critical system events on priority systems outside business hours as part of the agreed support roster.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and business stakeholders to manage delivery expectations and achieve strong customer outcomes.
• Identify opportunities to use emerging technologies to deliver robust, cost-effective and flexible solutions.
• Provide technical leadership, direction, standards and mentorship to a growing data management team, including onshore and offshore team members.
• Contribute to agile delivery by working in sprints, helping define and estimate stories, and creating lightweight technical documentation.
• Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, risk awareness and continuous improvement across IT & Change and PetSure.
What You’ll Bring:
A degree qualification in Information Systems, Computer Science or a related discipline.
• 7-12 years’ experience across Microsoft technologies, including SQL Server, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS and Power BI.
• 7+ years’ experience across AlwaysOn, Windows Clustering, Replication, Performance Tuning and Log Shipping.
• A strong background in database administration and/or data management, with senior or expert-level Microsoft SQL capability.
• Strong understanding of ETL environments, analytics, reporting, SQL development and enterprise data management.
• Experience architecting and developing high-availability, mission-critical distributed systems.
• Knowledge and experience building and managing cloud solutions in AWS and/or Azure, including big-data technologies.
• A strategic mindset, with the ability to formulate and execute digital and data strategies and improve data quality processes.
• Strong working knowledge of current IT technologies across a wide range of technical disciplines and emerging industry trends.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical ideas in business-friendly language.
• Strong customer focus, service ethic and the ability to prioritise and execute work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Highly developed collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor, motivate and develop others.
• Experience working with blended onshore and offshore delivery teams, Agile delivery, CI/CD frameworks, JIRA or test automation toolsets would be highly regarded.
