Join Our Aboriginal Healing Unit Team

Elizabeth Morgan House Aboriginal Women’s Services (EMHAWS) is seeking passionate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to join our Aboriginal Healing Unit (AHU) team at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre.

We currently have 3 full time opportunities available:

- AHU Cultural Practitioner – SCHADS Level 4.1
- Cultural Wellbeing Practitioner (AHU) – SCHADS Level 4.1

Both roles are 1.0 FTE, 76 hours per fortnight and work directly with Aboriginal women in custody, supporting connection to culture, healing, identity, wellbeing and community.

What to expect

Providing trauma-informed case management and Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) support.

- Facilitating culturally safe yarning spaces, cultural programs and therapeutic group activities.
- Providing trauma-informed case management and Social and Emotional Wellbeing support.
- Supporting women to strengthen cultural identity, resilience, self-advocacy and connection to community.
- Working collaboratively with Corrections Victoria, ACCOs and other service providers.
- Supporting reintegration, referrals, safety planning and culturally informed wellbeing goals.

Key requirements

Strong communication, relationship-building and culturally respectful engagement skills.

- Strong cultural knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing.




- Experience working with Aboriginal women, community, justice, family violence or people with complex needs.
- Strong communication, relationship-building and culturally respectful engagement skills.
- Applicants must also be able to meet the required Corrections Victoria screening requirements and hold or obtain relevant checks, including a Working with Children Check and Victorian Police Check.
- Demonstrated understanding of the cultural nuances and impacts of the justice system on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.
- For the Cultural Practitioner role, experience in group facilitation and cultural or therapeutic program delivery is important.
- For the Cultural Wellbeing Practitioner role, experience in case management, SEWB, assessment, referral and culturally safe one-to-one support is highly valued.

Applicants must also be able to meet the required Corrections Victoria screening requirements and hold or obtain relevant checks, including a Working with Children Check and Victorian Police Check. These positions are special-measure roles under Section 28 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 and are limited to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander female applicants.
