Hybrid - Location: Colac (VIC)
$61.31ph to $67.72phplus super
6-month contract with possible extension

Development Engineer - local government infrastructure and development

This is a hands‑on Development Engineer chance supporting a local government workplace, focusing on engineering advice for statutory and strategic planning referrals, subdivision plans and development‑related approvals. You will work across drainage, road design and traffic management considerations, balancing fit‑for‑purpose outcomes with legislative and policy requirements.

Who you will be working with:

You will be part of an Infrastructure and Operations function, partnering closely with planning teams, internal stakeholders and external parties including developers, consultants, contractors and service authorities.

Duties and responsibilities include:
Provide engineering advice on strategic and statutory planning referrals




Provide engineering advice on subdivision plans and associated documentation
Assess and approve engineering plans including drainage computations, geotechnical and pavement design
Support approvals, permits and consents impacting council assets (including road reserve related matters)
Liaise with service authorities (for example utilities) and respond to requests for technical advice
Provide advice to ratepayers and the public on drainage and traffic management matters linked to developments

We are looking for someone with:
Degree‑qualified Civil Engineer (or approved equivalent) with strong relevant experience
Local government experience - highly desirable
Solid experience with statutory planning processes, procedures and relevant regulations and policies
Knowledge of contemporary civil engineering and building practices (drainage, road design and related standards)
Confidence negotiating with developers and engaging agencies and authorities to protect council interests
Exposure to relevant planning and engineering tools (MUSIC, D‑Spec and SPEAR) and strong Microsoft Office skills
