Associate / Principal Environmental Consultant – Contaminated Land
Build Queensland's CLM capability around work that already exists
Major infrastructure pipeline with national technical support behind you
Associate / Principal Environmental Consultant in Contaminated Land to take ownership of a Queensland capability that, right now, is being delivered largely through subcontractors.
That's the interesting bit.
You're not being asked to manufacture a business case for building a team.
The projects are already coming through major infrastructure and environmental approvals work.
The chance is to take an existing stream of demand, bring the technical capability in-house and gradually build a team around it.
It's the appeal of building something without the usual terror of starting with a blank spreadsheet and a BD target.
The Role
Initially, you'll become the technical go-to for Contaminated Land in Queensland, overseeing work currently delivered by external specialists while putting the foundations in place for an internal team.
You'll:
Provide technical direction across Contaminated Land projects
Review reports, documentation and technical outputs
Manage and coordinate subcontractors currently delivering the work
Work across major infrastructure and environmental approvals projects
Connect with Environmental, Engineering and Geotechnical teams to identify where CLM expertise can add value
Draw on established Contaminated Land specialists interstate for technical support and collaboration
Shape how the Queensland capability operates as work transitions in-house
Recruit and develop the team as the local workload continues to grow
Build relationships with existing clients and internal project leaders rather than spending your week cold-selling for work
The Team
You're joining a large multidisciplinary consultancy where Contaminated Land expertise already exists nationally.
Queensland is the missing piece.
That gives you an unusual combination: autonomy to shape the local function, but access to established technical people, systems and multidisciplinary teams rather than having to figure everything out yourself.
This also isn't designed as a traditional rainmaker role.
Commercial awareness matters, but the opportunity is much more about being technically credible, connecting well with people and spotting opportunities already sitting within existing projects and relationships.
Experience
We're looking for someone who can credibly operate at Associate or Principal level, including:
Strong Contaminated Land consulting experience
Technical depth across investigation, assessment and related CLM work
Experience reviewing reports and providing technical direction
Confidence managing projects, clients and multidisciplinary stakeholders
Ability to oversee external resources before progressively building an internal team
An interest in building a capability, not simply inheriting one
Strong relationship skills without needing to be a pure BD operator
