Grade 2 ICU Physiotherapist

About the Physiotherapy department
The Physiotherapy Department comprises approximately 112 EFT staff at the Austin Hospital, Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital and the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre.
Clinical A physiotherapy clinical service is provided seven days per week, 12 hours per day to acute and aged care inpatient areas as well as outpatient and community services.
There is a seven-day primary care service for musculoskeletal injuries in the Emergency Department.
About the role
As a Grade 2 ICU Physiotherapist, you will be responsible for the safe and effective management of a clinical caseload across the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and ICU Outreach Service, providing expert physiotherapy support to patients with complex and acute presentations.
The position is involved in developing and applying advanced clinical expertise in critical care, acute deterioration, early rehabilitation, respiratory management, and complex patient care.
The role also provides supervision, guidance, and support to Grade 1 physiotherapists, Allied Health Assistants, and undergraduate physiotherapy students, while working collaboratively with Grade 3 and Grade 4 physiotherapy staff within the ADV stream.




The role requires flexibility within the Acute and Deteriorating VRSS (ADV) stream, including regular weekend work, to support a seven-day physiotherapy service for ICU patients.
A regular day will see you:
Provide high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy assessment and intervention to patients in ICU and acute ward settings
Prioritise and manage clinical workloads in fast-paced critical care environments
Providetimely,accuratedocumentation and comprehensive clinical handover
Communicate effectively with medical, nursing, allied health staff, patients, families, and carers
Act as a clinical resource within the multidisciplinary team
About you
To be successful in this role you'll bring with you:
Current registration as a Physiotherapist with AHPRA
Significant clinical experience in the physiotherapy management of ICU and/or acutelydeteriorating patients
Experience with complex patient populations including respiratory, neuromuscular, neurological, high-risk surgical and medically complex patients
Ability to manage acutely unwell patients and respond to clinical deterioration
Capacity to supervise and support Grade 1 physiotherapists, Allied Health Assistants, and students
