Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation (BLCAC) is the Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) representing the Bunurong people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation.
We advocate for the protection of Bunurong cultural heritage, the care of Country, and the wellbeing of our community and workforce across Greater Melbourne, the Mornington Peninsula and the Bass Coast.

About the Role
BLCAC is seeking a Community Engagement Officer to coordinate meaningful and culturally safe engagement with Bunurong Elders, members and the broader community.
Reporting to the CEO, this role is integral to strengthening participation, trust and connection across the organisation by ensuring community voices, priorities and lived experiences actively inform BLCAC's programs, policies and initiatives.
You will work closely with community members, Elders and internal teams to support genuine two-way engagement and embed culturally safe practices that uphold Bunurong cultural authority.
The role works in partnership with the Community Education and Community Development teams to ensure community voice informs learning, pathways and opportunities.
This role also works closely with the Community Education and Community Development roles as part of BLCAC's Strong Community team.
This is a hands-on role that combines engagement, coordination and relationship-building to support strong, community-led outcomes.
The role requires a high level of cultural awareness, professionalism and accountability to ensure engagement is respectful, inclusive and meaningful.
What this role focuses on:
Building strong relationships with community, Elders and families
Ensuring community voice informs programs, projects and decisions
Supporting culturally safe engagement and participation




Key Responsibilities
Build and maintain respectful, culturally safe relationships with community members, families and Elders.
Coordinate and facilitate community engagement activities including meetings, workshops, yarning circles, outreach and consultations.
Support genuine two-way communication between the organisation and community.
Identify emerging community priorities, concerns and opportunities and provide insights to inform organisational decision-making.
Assist in developing engagement approaches and plans that support inclusive and meaningful community participation.
Coordinate engagement activities including logistics, communications, materials and participant support
Support staff across the organisation to embed culturally safe engagement practices in their work
Work with internal teams to ensure community perspectives are embedded in programs, projects and service delivery
Support programs and activities that strengthen cultural identity, belonging and community participation
Assist in the development of community resources, information materials and engagement tools
Monitor engagement activities, collect feedback and identify opportunities to strengthen engagement approaches
Participate in community events, outreach activities and cross-organisational initiatives
Build and maintain relationships with partner organisations, councils, service providers and community networks
Attend community forums, interagency meetings and relevant networks as required
Represent the organisation in a culturally respectful and consistent manner
Maintain accurate records, engagement data and documentation
Prepare engagement summaries, reports and updates as required
Ensure all activities align with cultural protocols,



organisational policies and compliance requirements
Support the effective use of resources in line with approved budgets
What You Bring
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum 3 - 4 years of experience in community engagement, outreach or consultation
Experience working with Aboriginal communities or community-controlled organisations (highly regarded)
Relevant qualification in community engagement, community development, Aboriginal studies or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Strong facilitation and engagement skills
Demonstrated computer proficiency (Microsoft Office)
Current Victorian Driver's Licence
Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)

High level of cultural awareness, sensitivity and respect
Ability to engage respectfully with Elders, members and community
