About the opportunity
NSW Health Pathology are looking for a talented Senior Hospital Scientist to join our Haematology Oncology team within the Molecular Medicine Department on a permanent Full Time basis.
Based at John Hunter Hospital, we are looking for highly motivated team players.
The NSW Health Pathology Molecular Medicine Department is located a short drive from Newcastle, on the John Hunter Hospital Campus, with beautiful surroundings and outdoor areas.
The team you will be working with is dedicated, committed and positive, and strive for excellence to provide a quality Genomics service to NSW communities.
What you'll be doing
This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a highly sophisticated Genomics Laboratory.
The Haematology Oncology team performs a range of tests including SNP-microarray, FISH and karyotyping which are critical for clinical treatment decisions for oncology patients.
In this position you will be responsible for the management of scientific, technical and support staff, all testing and associated activities and logistics for the Haematology Oncology team.
The position oversees the quality, cost and operational integrity of the Haematology Oncology team, regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory services in the Haematology Oncology team, human resource, business and resource management.

Bachelor Degree or higher degree in Science/Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification, with subjects relevant to pathology from a recognised tertiary institution
Customer focused approach displaying well-developed interpersonal skills and good oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with customers, patients and clinical and laboratory staff, along with negotiation skills, report writing skills, statistical evaluation of scientific data and the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures
Proven leadership and management skills and experience including operational management, budget management, staff management and resource management
Advanced knowledge of Pathology Laboratory Information Systems including supervision of e-based Quality Management Systems
Extensive experience working in the laboratory including experience in staff training and competency assessment
Demonstrated understanding and sound knowledge of accreditation frameworks,



relevant standards and quality systems
Extensive experience in clinical laboratory haematological oncology cytogenetics, including expertise in the analysis, interpretation and reporting of FISH, karyotype and microarray investigations
