About the role
Custom Air Group is seeking a CNC Laser & Press Brake Operator to join our manufacturing team in Somerton, Victoria.
This is a permanent, ongoing opportunity for a skilled operator who can hit the ground running.
Previous laser cutting experience is preferred; however, we are also open to candidates with a strong mechanical background who are willing to learn.
This role requires a self-motivated, responsible person with excellent trade qualities & Communication skills who is able to work unsupervised and as a part of a team, reporting directly to the General Manager.
Key responsibilities
Set up and operate CNC press brake machinery - LVD Easyform-*****-Tonne Press Brake
Set up and operate Fibre laser cutting machinery - LVD Puma 6kW dual-bed laser
Read and interpret engineering drawings
Read and interpret shop drawings
Understand and operate LVD-compatible software suite
Create programs at the machine
Select and prepare sheet metal for the laser cutting process
Complete re-nesting where required to maximise material utilisation and minimise waste




Complete first-cut checks and milestone quality checks throughout production
Perform QA checks and accurately measure in-process and completed parts
Prioritise work orders according to urgency and production targets
Load and unload steel plates using forklifts and overhead cranes
Fabricate and assemble components from engineering drawings
Operate workshop machinery including saws, drills and mills
Complete assembly, finishing and quality inspections
MIG and TIG welding on steel, stainless steel and aluminium
Assist with testing and introducing current processes or technology
About you
Experience operating CNC Laser / Press Brake is highly desirable
Ability to read and interpret engineering/shop drawings
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work
Ability to accurately measure and perform quality checksAbility to work to production deadlines and prioritise work orders
Strong mechanical background
Ability to safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes
Reliable transport and a strong work ethic
Current Australian Driver's Licence
Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident with unrestricted, ongoing Australian work rights
