About the Role
Our Mt Kelly Operations (Lady Annie mine), located approximately 120km north-northwest of Mount Isa, has been an operational copper mine for over 10 years.
We are currently seeking skilled and safety-focusedMine Geologistto join our team and contribute to the growing success of our processing operations.
What You'll Do
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will play a hands-on role in supporting the safe and efficient delivery of day-to-day grade control, ore control and production geology activities across Austral Resources' open pit mining operations.
The role works closely with Mining, Technical Services and Production teams to provide accurate geological information that optimises ore recovery, minimises dilution and supports operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities




Provide technical leadership for all mine geology activities, ensuring safe, efficient and accurate geological support to open pit mining operations.
Lead ore control and grade control programs, including geological mapping, sampling, interpretation and timely delineation of ore boundaries to maximise ore recovery and minimise dilution.
Develop, maintain and continuously improve geological models through the integration of drilling, mapping, assay and production data to support short- and medium-term mine planning.
Monitor and analyse production and grade reconciliation, investigate variances and implement improvements to geological processes, modelling and ore control practices.
Mentor and develop geologists and geological technicians, promoting high technical standards, knowledge sharing and continuous professional development within the geology team.
Communicate and collaborate effectively with mining and technical teams to support operational decision-making and production outcomes.
Ensure geological data management, sampling protocols and QA/QC processes comply with company standards, statutory requirements and industry best practice while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
Deliver high-quality geological data through mapping,



sampling, RC drill core logging, QA/QC, and accurate data validation and management.

Key Requirements
Bachelor of Science (Geology) or equivalent
Minimum of 2 years relevant experience
Working knowledge of Surpac software or similar.
Ability to operate to safety standards set and mitigate risk
Valuable written and oral communication skills
Able to work in a small team in a remote area
The ability to pass a Drug & Alcohol test
Highly regarded but not essential
Familiar with safe operating practises in mining
Knowledge of Mt Isa style copper mineralisation systems
G189 certified
A first aid certificate
