Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Python Developer Software Engineer to provide technical leadership and hands-on development for the re-platforming of a data processing application onto a modern, scalable platform. This is a part-time opportunity based in Dockland Melbourne on a initial 6-month contract with possible extension.
This role will suit a senior engineer or Tech lead who enjoys remaining hands-on while also providing technical direction, solution design, mentoring, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the technical design and implementation of an application re-platforming initiative
Define the migration approach and develop Python solutions for complex data processing workloads
Design and develop data-intensive applications, ETL workflows, APIs, and microservices
Build data ingestion, transformation, validation, and processing pipelines
Apply modern software engineering, DevSecOps, CI/CD, testing, and automation practices
Conduct code reviews and promote clean code and engineering best practices
Collaborate with Solution Architects, platform teams, Project Managers, engineers, and business stakeholders
Support knowledge transfer and capability uplift across application support teams
Key Requirements
Successful candidate must be able to obtain a
Baseline Security Clearance
Strong commercial
Python development
experience, including application design, optimisation, and troubleshooting
Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer or Technical Lead on application modernisation or re-platforming projects
Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and clean code principles
Experience developing data-intensive applications, ETL pipelines, APIs, and microservices
Experience integrating databases, external APIs, messaging platforms, and enterprise systems
Strong knowledge of batch and real-time data processing architectures
Experience with CI/CD, Git, automated testing, release management, monitoring, and logging
Experience designing microservices, event-driven architectures, and API-first solutions
Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
Previous experience modernising or re-platforming legacy applications
Experience within large enterprise, government, or regulated environments
Robust understanding of security, authentication, authorisation, and compliance requirements
