Senior SMP Designer – Mining & Mineral Processing

Due to continued project growth and a robust pipeline of work, we are seeking an experienced Senior SMP Designer to join our
Melbourne engineering team.
This role will support the design and development of mineral processing plants and bulk materials handling facilities, working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams across studies, detailed design and project execution.
The position is primarily based in our West Melbourne office; however, experienced Perth-based candidates will also be considered
The Role
As an SMP Designer, you will be responsible for developing
2D and 3D plant layouts and models
for mining and mineral processing facilities.
Typical plant areas include:
Crushing and screening circuits
Grinding and milling equipment
Pumps, slurry handling and process equipment
Thickeners and process tanks
Conveyors and bulk materials handling systems
Chutes, hoppers and transfer stations
Equipment and piping arrangements
You will work closely with
process, mechanical, civil, structural and electrical engineers
to deliver high-quality plant designs across
study and detailed design phases
.
Key Responsibilities
Develop
2D and 3D plant layouts for mineral processing facilities
Produce
structural, mechanical and piping (SMP) layouts
Prepare
general arrangement drawings and detailed design drawings
Develop and maintain




3D models of process plants
Assist with
clash detection and model coordination
Coordinate designs with
multidisciplinary engineering teams
Produce
construction documentation and drawing packages
Support engineering teams during
study and project delivery phases
Develop equipment arrangements, access, maintenance and constructability requirements
Incorporate vendor data and engineering requirements into plant models
About You
To be successful in this role you will have:
8+ years experience
as an SMP Designer within an engineering consultancy/EPCM environment, preferably across mining and mineral processing projects
Strong experience producing
2D and 3D plant designs
Strong hands‐on
MicroStation
capability
Experience developing
plant layouts and equipment arrangements
Strong understanding of
mineral processing plants and materials handling systems
Ability to work effectively within
multidisciplinary engineering teams
Experience taking designs from study-level layouts through to detailed design
A practical understanding of constructability, equipment access and maintenance requirements
Experience designing areas such as
crushing circuits, grinding circuits, conveyors, slurry pumping systems and process equipment installations
will be highly regarded.
