The Corporate Services and Governance Division (CSGD) provides critical corporate and enabling services that support the AEC in delivering trusted electoral outcomes for all Australians. The Division is responsible for a broad portfolio including legal services, people and culture functions, financial management, governance, and corporate support services, ensuring the agency operates effectively, efficiently and in accordance with legislative and regulatory requirements.
Working in a highly collaborative environment, CSGD partners closely with the AEC's Executive Leadership Team, managers and employees across the agency to provide expert advice, strategic support and corporate services. Through strong partnerships across business areas, the Division supports informed decision-making, organisational performance and the delivery of agency priorities that maintain the integrity and effectiveness of Australia's electoral system.

The key duties of the position include:
The Executive Officer to the First Assistant Commissioner (FAC) plays a pivotal role in supporting the CSGD. Working closely with the FAC and Executive Assistant, you will provide high-level executive, secretariat and coordination support, helping to deliver strategic priorities and ensure the effective operation of the FAC Office.
This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to agency-wide initiatives and work closely with senior leaders on complex and sensitive matters. You will coordinate communications, manage competing priorities and provide strategic support across a broad range of corporate and governance activities. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, you will exercise sound judgement, discretion and initiative to deliver outcomes in a dynamic workplace.
As the Executive Officer, you will prepare and quality assure complex correspondence, briefs, reports, submissions, talking points and other written products, ensuring they are accurate, timely and aligned with organisational priorities. You will engage confidently with stakeholders across the AEC, building productive relationships and supporting the effective communication of decisions and priorities.
Success in this role requires exceptional organisational skills, strong stakeholder engagement capabilities and the ability to balance multiple priorities while supporting executive decision‐making. You will work collaboratively with Executive Assistants and administrative staff across the Division, contributing to a professional, responsive and high-performing executive office while managing sensitive and confidential information with integrity and discretion.
To excel you'll have:
Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and influence outcomes through high-quality written and verbal communication tailored to a range of audiences.
Experience building productive stakeholder relationships and working effectively with people at all levels, including senior executives.
Demonstrated experience preparing and quality assuring complex or sensitive correspondence, briefs, reports, submissions and other executive-level documentation.
Ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement and provide timely support and advice in a fast-paced environment.
Experience supporting senior executives, including anticipating needs, managing emerging issues and contributing to informed decision‐making.
Demonstrated ability to analyse information, identify risks and issues,
and provide practical, solutions-focused recommendations to address complex matters.
Ability to work collaboratively across teams and business areas to achieve shared outcomes and support organisational priorities.
Demonstrated integrity, professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information.
Understanding of corporate or public sector governance frameworks and the ability to apply this knowledge to support organisational objectives.
