Are you a qualified finance qualified who enjoys turning complex numbers into clear, reliable insight? Macquarie University is seeking a Lead, Senior Financial Analyst to join our Group Finance team and play a central part in the financial reporting that underpins decision-making across the University and its Controlled Entities.

In this role you will provide high-quality financial reporting support and act as a Second in Charge (2IC) for Group Finance Managers within the Financial Operations and/or Controlled Entity teams. You will help deliver timely and accurate revenue reconciliation across Macquarie University staff and students, while coordinating the day-to-day work of a group of Financial Analysts.

About the Role

Reporting into Group Finance, you will help ensure the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of financial reporting across the Group. Key accountabilities include:

Supervising and coordinating the day-to-day activities of two Financial Analysts, providing guidance, review and oversight of their work, and acting as 2IC for the Team Manager as required.

Performing month-end and year-end close activities across relevant Group entities, including preparing and reviewing complex monthly journals (accruals, prepayments, allocations, balance sheet and other GL reconciliations).

Liaising and coordinating with key stakeholders on queries, processes and inputs/outputs, and preparing primary analysis presentations covering salary-related costs and revenue.

Identifying, designing and implementing process improvements, and partnering with Systems/IT to deliver improvement initiatives across the University and Controlled Entities.

Reviewing and approving recurring and standard journals and schedules prepared by Financial Analysts, and helping apply finance policies, procedures and internal controls.

Coordinating, reviewing and resolving inter-company transactions,



preparing inter-company elimination trial balances and inter-company reporting.

Supporting the provision of data and information for external audits and applying a clear understanding of supply chain and inventory processes when preparing journals in line with accounting principles.

Complying with relevant EEO and WHS regulations and undertaking other duties appropriate to the classification.

About You (Selection Criteria)

You bring solid financial accounting experience and enjoy working in a fast-moving environment. You combine careful attention to detail with clear communication and effective stakeholder engagement. You are comfortable working both on your own initiative and as part of a wider team to help achieve the University's strategic goals, and you have some experience coordinating or overseeing colleagues.

Accounting degree, and qualified or working towards CA/CPA, with a sound understanding of accounting principles and procedures.

Proven experience in month-end close processes and preparing/reviewing complex journals and reconciliations.

Experience coordinating or overseeing colleagues within a team.

Effective stakeholder engagement and clear communication skills.

Ability to work to high standards and meet agreed deadlines.

Sound planning and time-management skills.

Experience in the health sector is desirable but not essential.
