Khmer Speaking Disability Support Worker

About the role
We are seeking a Khmer Speaking Disability Support Worker to join our team on a casual basis in Noble Park, Victoria . This role is essential to our mission of providing inclusive, culturally appropriate support to members of our Khmer-speaking community who live with disabilities. As a Disability Support Worker, you will provide direct personal care, assistance with daily living activities, and meaningful support to help clients achieve their goals and maintain their independence. Your fluency in Khmer will be a valuable asset in breaking down communication barriers and ensuring that clients receive culturally sensitive care that honours their background and preferences. This position offers flexibility for individuals seeking casual work whilst making a genuine difference in the lives of vulnerable community members.
Key responsibilities
- Provide direct personal care and assistance with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and toileting
- Offer mobility support and assist clients with safe movement, transfers, and positioning
- Support clients with meal preparation, feeding, and nutritional needs
- Communicate with clients in Khmer to ensure transparent understanding of care instructions and to build trust and rapport
- Accompany clients to medical appointments, community outings, and social activities
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of support provided and client wellbeing observations
- Report any concerns or changes in client health and wellbeing to the care coordinator or supervisor
- Respect client privacy, dignity, and independence whilst providing appropriate levels of support
- Adhere to all safety protocols, including infection control, manual handling, and emergency procedures
- Collaborate effectively with other team members and maintain professional boundaries
What we're looking for
- Fluency in Khmer language – ability to communicate effectively in both Khmer and English to support clients from Khmer-speaking backgrounds
- Experience in disability support, aged care, or health and social care services (desirable)
- First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one (Training to be provided)
- Working with Children Check (WWC) or willingness to obtain clearance if required by Victoria
- Current National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Worker Orientation Module (WOM) completion or willingness to complete
- Robust interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds
- Empathy, patience, and genuine passion for supporting people with disabilities
- Physical ability to provide personal care and assistance, including secure manual handling
- Reliability and commitment to arriving on time for scheduled shifts
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- A non-judgemental approach and respect for client autonomy and cultural values
