We are an established and busy Japanese restaurant located on Clarence st Wynyard, offering high-quality Japanese cuisine in a professional and fast-paced environment.

We are currently seeking an experienced and reliable Cook to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis.

Key responsibilities

- Preparing and cooking a variety of dishes in accordance with established recipes, menus and presentation standards
- Preparing ingredients, including meat, seafood, vegetables, sauces, stocks and garnishes
- Operating grills, fryers, stovetops, ovens and other commercial kitchen equipment
- Monitoring the quality of ingredients and finished dishes
- Ensuring consistent portion sizes, flavour and presentation
- Assisting with menu preparation and the development of new dishes when required
- Managing food preparation and service during busy periods
- Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering and inventory control
- Minimising food waste and following appropriate food-storage procedures
- Maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen
- Following food safety, workplace health and safety, and sanitation requirements
- Working collaboratively with chefs, kitchen staff and front-of-house team members




- Assisting with the training and supervision of junior kitchen staff where required

Skills and experience

To be considered for this position, applicants should have:

- A relevant commercial cookery qualification,or at least three years of relevant commercial cooking experience
- Experience working in a busy commercial restaurant kitchen
- Sound knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and food safety requirements
- Robust attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistent quality
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team
- The ability to work under pressure during busy service periods
- Availability to work a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays
- Experience preparing Japanese cuisine will be highly regarded but is not essential.
