About us

headspace offers a ‘one stop shop’ for young people aged 12 -25 and their families who may be experiencing mental health challenges.



Providing an opportunity for young people to receive help early and promote a 'no wrong door' approach to supporting young people and their families through the provision of GPs, counsellors, Alcohol & other Drug workers and Vocational and Educational support.

Alfred Health is the lead agency for this program and offers the opportunity to work in a growing dynamic healthcare environment.

What you’ll be doing

As our Community Awareness Worker, you will work with the headspace Centre Manager to review, coordinate and implement the headspace Elsternwick Community Awareness and Engagement Strategy.

You will also be implementing a new and innovative approach to volunteering with the @ease youth participation model that will focus on improving young people’s access and engagement with the service.

You will bring with you experience in working with young people, as well as experience in community engagement, health promotion, public health behavioural/social sciences, communications, marketing, education and/or youth work.

About you

- Qualifications in Health Promotion, Youth Work, Community Development, Social/Behavioural Science, Social Work/Planning or a related discipline.
- Strong facilitation and public speaking skills
- Demonstrated experience working with young people with mental health, alcohol and other drug, and other social issues
- Demonstrated experience coordinating and facilitating youth programs, events and activities within a community setting
- Experience with social media as a communication tool
- Australian working rights
- Current Influenza vaccination
- Current Victorian Driver's License
- Current Working with Children Check or willing to obtain one and be willing to undergo a Background Check

Desirable

- Volunteer recruitment, training and coordination
- Experience in the not for profit/non-government or the mental health sectors
