The role of the Orthoptist is an integral part of our business. It involves performing initial diagnostic testing on our patients, discuss surgeries with patients and working directly with our Ophthalmologists. This is a Full Time position with rostered day off every fortnight. Hours of work could vary between 8.00 am-5.00 pm.
Key responsibilities
- Clinical work up and Orthoptic assessments
- Ordering of medical supplies
- Assistance with patient reception and data entry occasionally
- Booking appointments and billing when required
- Admin duties as asked by the Practice Manager
About you
- Minimum of 4 years' experience as an Orthoptist or in a similar position
- Must hold a Diploma or Bachelor of Applied Science (Orthoptics) &/or Masters in Orthoptics or equivalent with eligibility for registration with the Orthoptic Board of Australia
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the investigation and management of patients with strabismus and ocular motility disorders within commensurate years of experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability in ophthalmic assisting including perimetry, OCT, Pentacam, refraction, A scan, etc
- Experience in clinical trials is a plus
- Medical software experience (preferably Genie)
- Experience in paediatric ophthalmology is desirable
- Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication,
and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement and ability to translate evidence into practice
- Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to exercise independent professional judgement on routine matters, commensurate with years of experience
Roster half day off once a fortnight

Nexus Eyecare Blacktown is a purpose-built facility, designed for consultations, diagnostic testing, and outpatient procedures and a comprehensive range of other ophthalmic services. We are a busy ophthalmology practice with specialty interest in Cataracts, Medical retinal, Corneal, Refractive & Pediatric. Our team consists of 11 ophthalmologists, 4 orthoptists, 1 registered nurse, receptionists, typist, a practice manager and a Business Development Manager.
