Job Description
Placed.au is looking for a full-time Internal Accountant for our client in Port Melbourne, Victoria. This role is responsible for supporting the Finance Manager in the preparation, management, analysis, and reporting of financial and accounting information, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements while contributing to the financial performance and operational success of the business. - Assist the Finance Manager with month-end accounting activities, including the preparation and posting of accruals, prepayments, journal entries, job cost journals, WIP reviews, revenue close-off, and monthly financial accounts.
- Collaborate with the Finance Business Partner to prepare weekly revenue tracking reports, analyse actual performance against budgets and forecasts, and provide commentary on significant variances.
- Assist in the preparation, review, consolidation, and lodgement of monthly Business Activity Statements (BAS), ensuring compliance with Australian Taxation Office requirements.
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecasts by analysing operating costs, expenditure, revenue trends, and providing recommendations to improve financial performance.
- Prepare Accounts Receivable reports, including debtor days, collections, liquidated damages, and support the Accounts Receivable team to ensure timely billing and excellent customer service.
- Prepare and lodge business tax returns while ensuring compliance with applicable taxation legislation and identifying opportunities for tax planning and savings.
- Compile, analyse, and prepare end-of-year financial statements,
including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, and retained earnings reports.
- Liaise with external auditors by providing supporting documentation, responding to audit queries, and assisting with audit activities and management reporting.
- Provide financial and accounting advice to management, recommend improvements to accounting systems, maintain financial registers, and assist with settlement accounting and other finance-related activities.
- Perform additional accounting and financial duties as required to support the Finance Manager and broader finance team.
Qualifications / Attributes
- Must hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- CA or CPA qualification (or progress towards completion) will be highly regarded.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, taxation, and management accounting principles.
- Experience preparing BAS, financial statements, tax returns, and management reports.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with accounting and ERP systems.
- Solid analytical, problem-solving, and financial analysis capabilities.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting and record keeping.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Proactive, reliable, and committed to continuous improvement and delivering high-quality financial outcomes.
Salary Range $75,000 - $90,000 per annum excluding superannuation.
