What you will do as the Deputy GeneralCounsel
- Lead a team ofprofessionals,
role modelling our leadership behaviours,supporting a professional and collaborative workingenvironment, coaching, giving continuous feedback, resolvingconflict and facilitating career progression.
- Manage complexlegal advice and other legal services to the ACCC, particularlyin relation to the ACCC’s functions and powers under the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (CCA), including theAustralian Consumer Law (ACL) and other relevantlegislation.
- Provide high levelstrategic advice and direction to the ACCC including the Chair,Commissioners and other senior executives in relation tomergers and acquisitions, competition and consumer law, majorinvestigations and proceedings involving alleged contraventionsof the CCA, administrative law, regulatory frameworks,regulation of national infrastructure and other relevantlegislation.
- Aspart of a team of staff, internal and external lawyers, managea complex legal program, which may include hearings in theCompetition Tribunal and proceedings before the Federal Courtand the High Court.
- Substantial legalexperience at a senior practitioner level relevant to thefunctions of the ACCC and to the status of the ACCC as aCommonwealth agency, including expertise in administrative,competition and consumer law.
- Admission as a practitioner, however described, of the High Court or theSupreme Court of an Australian State or Territory is essential(you are required to hold a current Australian practisingcertificate).
- Tertiaryqualifications in relevant field(s).
