St Mary's Anglican Girls' School is an independent day and boarding school for over 1500 girls from Kindergarten to Year 12. We provide girls with opportunities to pursue personal and academic excellence in a respectful and supportive environment.
St Mary's is entering an exciting new phase with the development of our state-of-the-art Science, Enterprise, Technology and Innovation (SETI) Centre, due for completion in mid-2027. This facility will bring together Science, Technology and Enterprise in a purpose-built learning precinct featuring 17 specialty science laboratories, a large sustainability garden, four technology laboratories, a multi-level amphitheatre and industry-inspired collaboration spaces. The SETI Centre will provide exceptional opportunities to shape innovative programs, foster interdisciplinary learning and prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly STEM-driven future.
Due to an internal promotion, we are seeking an exceptional Head of Science, to commence January 2027. Reporting to the Deputy Principal (Studies), the Head of Science leads and manages the Science department, encompassing curriculum, pedagogy, and staffing. The Head of Science is supported by the Assistant Head of Department and the Gifted and Talented Coordinator.
The Senior School Science Department offers the following programs:
- Western Australian curriculum in Years 7 to 10, where students participate in Project Based Learning (PBL) for a unit of work.
- Optional elective subjects of Astronomy, Environmental Science and Marine Science in Years 9 and 10.
- Year 11 and 12 Science courses include Biology (ATAR), Chemistry (ATAR), Human Biology (ATAR), Human Biology General, Marine and Maritime Studies (ATAR),
Physics (ATAR) and Psychology (ATAR).
The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic and experienced educator with a love of Science and the ability to effectively lead a department. Responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:
- Promote effective instructional practices and communication that support high impact instruction using research based, data driven practices with effective consultation and program evaluation.
- Lead and manage to successfully progress the vision and strategy the department.
- Build upon a high functioning team, providing guidance as required, promoting staff development, and fostering team collaboration.
Essential qualifications and experience for this role include:
- Relevant tertiary degree and teaching qualifications.
- Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.
- Ability to provide a stimulating learning environment, effective teaching and exemplary assessment practices.
Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, the ability to work productively in a busy environment, and extensive teaching experience are all pre-requisites for this fulltime ongoing role.
