We’re seeking a detail-oriented, proactive HR & Payroll Officer to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring accurate payroll processing, maintaining employee records, and supporting a range of HR functions. You will play a key role in upholding compliance with employment legislation.
You’ll be responsible for accurate, compliant payroll processing and will play an important role in supporting HR activities across recruitment, onboarding, training, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
· Process end-to-end payroll on a fortnightly basis, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with legislative requirements.
· Maintain payroll records and employee payroll data, processing updates accurately and in a timely manner.
· Prepare payroll-related information for Payroll Tax, Superannuation, IAS, Single Touch Payroll (STP), and year-end reporting.
· Reconcile payroll data and investigate discrepancies as required.
· Prepare payroll reports, cost analysis, and workforce reporting for management.
· Ensure compliance with relevant Awards, Enterprise Agreements, Fair Work legislation, and company policies.
· Respond promptly and professionally to payroll-related employee enquiries.
Human Resources Administration
· Provide day-to-day HR administrative support across the employee lifecycle.
· Assist with recruitment activities, including drafting and posting job advertisements, screening applications, coordinating interviews, conducting reference checks, and preparing offer documentation.
· Coordinate onboarding and induction programs to ensure a positive employee experience for new starters.
· Prepare and maintain employment contracts, position descriptions, contract variations, probation reviews, and other HR documentation.
· Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR databases.
· Support managers with probation management, performance review processes, and employee development initiatives.
· Assist with employee relations matters and provide guidance on HR policies and procedures.
· Coordinate employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, and internal HR communications.
· Support workforce planning activities, organisational restructures, and HR projects as required.
Training, Compliance & Workforce Management
· Manage training systems, records, competencies, licences, and compliance requirements.
· Monitor employee qualifications, certifications, and scheduled refresher training to ensure ongoing compliance.
· Coordinate apprentice and trainee programs, including liaison with training providers and relevant stakeholders.
· Support workforce mobilisation, site compliance, and onboarding requirements across multiple locations.
· Assist in maintaining HR and training compliance with industry, contractual, and legislative requirements.

Skills & Experience
· Minimum 3 years' experience in Payroll and Human Resources Administration.
· Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, Fair Work requirements, Superannuation, and Payroll Tax.
· Experience interpreting Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements, and employment legislation.
· Sound understanding of HR processes across recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee lifecycle administration.
· Experience maintaining HRIS and payroll systems with a high degree of accuracy.
· Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
· Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality.
· Strong organisational, planning, and time management skills.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Experience with WHS, workers' compensation, and return-to-work administration.
· Experience managing training and compliance systems.
· Experience in mining, resources, construction, transport, or multi-site environments will be highly regarded.
· Relevant qualifications in Payroll, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline are desirable.
