St Georges Road Primary School is situated just south of the Central Business District in Shepparton and has an enrolment of about 370 students. We believe that the success of each child relies on a strong partnership between staff, students and parents. St Georges Rd primary School provides a comprehensive curriculum which includes sound organisational structure, whole school planning and systematic approach to evaluation and development. Planning, implementation, and assessment of curriculum is developed against the Victorian Curriculum. Staff form part of three key teams: Literacy, Numeracy and Social Curriculum. There is a strong collaborative ethos across all levels of the school.
The school aims to provide a happy, safe, stimulating environment and is structured around basic assumptions:
- Children are individuals and develop at their own rate to reach maximum potential.
- Children learn best through challenging first-hand experiences, and by their natures must be actively involved in the learning process.
- The more stimulating the educational environment the greater the motivation for learning.
- Parents and community members can contribute much to the educational process.

Our school offers specialist programs. Individual differences are catered for through differentiated curriculum, and includes literacy and numeracy intervention and extension, an EAL program. The Library, STEM room and Multipurpose hall complement these programs. A Before and After School Care program, breakfast club, homework clubs and lunchtime enrichment programs cater for all students. Additional programs that enrich our school community includes a community hub, a visiting paediatrician, play therapy and speech support. On our site we have a preschool and the Shepparton English language Centre.
Teachers at our school are excited about education and are constantly learning and growing. Our school shows children a caring community by working together and supporting and respecting one another. There is a strong sense of community at St Georges Rd primary School.

Selection Criteria
SC1
Demonstrated experience supporting children or young people with disability and/or complex behavioural, developmental or mental health needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD and emotional or behavioural dysregulation.
SC2
Demonstrated ability to build positive, respectful and therapeutic relationships with children and young people who present with complex behaviours, using a calm, patient, strengths-based and trauma-informed approach.
SC3
Demonstrated understanding of Positive Behaviour Support principles, including the ability to implement individual behaviour support strategies, respond safely to challenging behaviours, and support students to develop emotional regulation, communication and independence.
SC4
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, allied health professionals, school leadership and families, while maintaining professional communication and accurate documentation.
SC5
Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement, remain calm under pressure,
and adapt strategies to meet the changing needs of students while maintaining a secure and inclusive learning environment.
SC6
A commitment to ongoing professional learning and reflective practice, with a willingness to participate in training relating to disability, behaviour support, trauma-informed practice and inclusive education.
Role
Role Purpose
St Georges Road Primary School is seeking a compassionate, resilient and skilled Education Support Worker to provide dedicated one-to-one support for a primary school student with a highly complex disability profile, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD and significant emotional and behavioural support needs.
This role would suit someone with experience in disability support, youth work, mental health, community services or education support who is passionate about helping children succeed in an inclusive school environment. You will work closely with teachers, allied health professionals, wellbeing staff and school leadership to support the student's learning, communication, emotional regulation and independence throughout the school day.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
The successful applicant will:
- Provide consistent one-to-one support throughout the school day.
- Implement agreed classroom adjustments, behaviour support plans and regulation strategies.
- Build a positive, trusting and respectful relationship with the student while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Support communication, emotional regulation and participation in classroom and playground activities.
- Use proactive and preventative strategies to reduce escalation and promote student success.
- Respond calmly and safely during incidents of emotional or behavioural dysregulation in accordance with school procedures.
- Support the student's independence by using appropriate prompting and gradually reducing support where appropriate.
- Collect observational data and contribute to monitoring student progress.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, allied health professionals, wellbeing staff and school leadership.
- Participate in Student Support Group meetings and professional learning as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with Child Safe Standards and Department policies.

Essential Skills and Attributes

- Qualification in Community Services, Disability Support, Youth Work, or similar
- Experience supporting children or young people with Autism, ADHD or other complex support needs.
- A strengths-based, trauma-informed approach to working with children.
- Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and strategies that promote emotional regulation.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Flexibility, patience and resilience.
- Commitment to inclusive education and continuous professional learning.
