The Role
Reporting to the Director, Enterprise Technology Division (EDT) Business Management, the EL1 Software Library Team Leader leads and develops a high-performing team responsible for the department's software and cloud asset management capability. The team leader plays a key role in shaping how the department manages and optimises its software and cloud investments. The position leads software asset management practices that enable informed decision-making, strengthen governance and compliance, and ensure the department realises maximum value from its technology portfolio.
The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping how the department manages and maximises value from its technology investments. Working collaboratively with teams across Enterprise Technology Division and the broader department, they will leverage existing capabilities, identify opportunities to rationalise software licensing arrangements, and drive efficient, customer-focused outcomes. Through a robust focus on continual improvement, the role will enhance asset management practices, reporting, governance and processes to support informed decision-making, innovation and value for money across the department.
Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the EL1 may include:
- Lead and develop the Software Library team, fostering a high-performing, collaborative and customer-focused culture that delivers quality outcomes for the department.
- Drive the strategic management and optimisation of the department's software licence and cloud service portfolio, ensuring value for money, licence compliance and alignment with business needs.
- Partner with stakeholders across the division to identify opportunities to rationalise software licensing arrangements, reduce duplication, and maximise the value of existing technology.
- Provide advice to stakeholders on software asset management, enabling informed decision-making and supporting the delivery of secure, compliant and cost-effective technology services.
- Lead the continuous improvement of software asset management practices, processes and reporting, leveraging data and insights to improve governance, efficiency and customer outcomes.
- Oversee the department's software asset lifecycle management capability, including licence consumption, contract obligations, renewals, optimisation opportunities and compliance activities.
- Deliver strategic reporting and insights on software usage, costs, risks and trends to support executive decision-making and future investment planning.
- Assist to deliver and manage a high volume of software procurements and contracts annually, including high-value software true-up processes.

Citizenship - to be eligible for employment with the Department, you must be an Australian Citizen or, in limited circumstances, in the process of obtaining it.
Security Clearance - our successful candidate is required to hold, or have the ability to obtain, and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance.
