The Community Language Hubs Team

Leader is responsible for establishing, supporting and strengthening Community Language Hubs in Ti Tree (for Anmatyerr, Warlpiri and Kaytetye languages), Papunya (for Pintupi-Luritja language) and other priority locations identified through regional consultations.

The position ensures that hub activities are community-driven and aligned with CALL’s strategic priorities and national best‑practice models for First Nations language maintenance. Working closely with Elders, language speakers, local workers and partner organisations, the Team Leader supports communities to identify their language goals, develop priority projects,

and build the skills needed to sustain language work.

The role provides on‑the‑ground coordination, training and technical support for local Hub workers, including assistance with language documentation, resource development and pathways into interpreter training.

The Team

Leader acts as the key link between community‑based Hubs and CALL’s Alice Springs office, ensuring that communities have access to administrative, linguistic and digital support for their language work.

Duties

- Lead and support remote Community Language Hubs by coordinating teams of casual language workers in two hubs and maintaining strong communication between Hub staff and CALL.
- Work with communities to identify language goals, develop local language plans, and document local language ecologies, ensuring all activities are community‑driven, culturally grounded and aligned with local priorities.
- Strengthen interpreter training pathways by identifying potential interpreters, running practice sessions, coordinating preparatory workshops, and liaising with interpreter services and training providers.
- Support language documentation and resource development through recording, transcription, digital tools and cooperative resource creation.
- Facilitate cross‑community collaboration by organising monthly link‑ups for Hub workers and assisting with annual literacy, language and translation workshops in Alice Springs and Darwin/Batchelor.
- Maintain accurate records of all Hub activities, participation,

outputs and outcomes to support reporting, evaluation and continuous improvement.
- Provide training, mentoring and administrative support to local Hub workers (casual CALL staff), ensuring they have the skills, resources and guidance needed to carry out community language projects effectively.
- Undertake other reasonable duties as directed by your line manager.

Selection Criteria- Essential

4. Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.

6. Demonstrated initiative and managing workload priorities.
7. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
8. Ability to build strong, respectful relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Selection Criteria- Desirable
