Dig Safe Geelong Pty Ltd is seeking multiple experienced Combo / NDD Vac Truck Operators to join our operations team. This is a full-time position based in Geelong, Victoria. As a Combo / NDD Vac Truck Operator, you will play a crucial role in our construction and excavation operations, utilising specialised vacuum truck equipment to safely and efficiently locate and remove underground utilities and debris. This position is essential to maintaining our high safety standards and ensuring that all excavation work is conducted without damaging critical infrastructure.
Key responsibilities
- Operate combination and non-destructive digging (NDD) vacuum truck equipment in accordance with all safety regulations and company procedures
- Safely perform hydro-excavation/NDD tasks, locate and expose underground utilities including water, gas, electricity and telecommunications lines
- Perform pre-operation inspections and maintenance checks on vacuum truck equipment to ensure optimal functionality
- Accurately record and document all excavation activities, utility locations and any issues encountered on site
- Communicate effectively with site managers, excavation teams and utility service providers to coordinate safe work practices
- Adhere to all relevant legislation, codes of practice and company safety protocols whilst operating machinery
- Respond promptly to emergency situations and assist in resolving any complications that arise during excavation work
- Maintain a clean and organised work environment around the vacuum truck and equipment
- Assist in training and mentoring junior operators when required
What we're looking for
- Current heavy vehicle licence (HR or HC classification preferred)
- Proven experience operating vacuum trucks, combination trucks or similar specialised excavation equipment
- NDD (Non-Destructive Digging) certification or equivalent qualification (preferred), or willingness to obtain this certification
- Solid understanding of underground utility location practices and safety protocols
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work collaboratively on busy construction sites
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate record-keeping and documentation
- Current first aid certification or willingness to obtain one
- Physical fitness and capability to perform manual handling tasks
- Reliability and the ability to work flexibly, including potential early starts and overtime as project demands require
- Experience working in the construction or excavation industry is highly desirable
- Induction training on site-specific safety procedures and company systems is expected
