South Coast Civil (WA) Pty Ltd is a Western Australian civil construction company specialising in earthmoving, excavation, trenching, site preparation and underground drainage works across residential, commercial and infrastructure projects. The company operates a modern fleet of excavators, dozers, loaders and other civil construction machinery. On behalf of South Coast Civil (WA), we are looking for an experienced Drainer (Leading Hand) for a full-time position based in Halls Head WA 6210, with work undertaken across the company’s project sites.
Position Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Interpret construction drawings, specifications and site plans to determine drainage layouts, levels, materials and installation requirements.
- Plan daily drainage activities, allocate labour and plant, and coordinate drainage and earthworks crews to ensure efficient project delivery.
- Set out drainage works using laser levels, string lines and other levelling equipment, checking trench depths, grades, alignments and slopes against project requirements.
- Install, maintain and repair below-ground drainage systems, including stormwater, sanitary and sewer pipework, pits, manholes, culverts, headwalls and associated infrastructure.
- Prepare trenches, bedding and foundations, and sling, guide, position,
joint and secure pipes and culverts safely and accurately.
- Supervise and actively participate in drainage works, providing practical direction to crew members, operators and subcontractors throughout job execution.
- Coordinate excavation, pipe installation, backfilling, compaction, concrete works and site reinstatement.
- Monitor workmanship and complete quality checks to ensure drainage installations comply with drawings, specifications and applicable standards.
- Inspect existing drainage systems, diagnose faults and undertake or recommend appropriate repairs, maintenance or upgrades.
- Ensure works are completed in accordance with health, safety, environmental and quality requirements, including conducting pre-start briefings and addressing site hazards.
- Operate excavators, loaders, rollers and other machinery when appropriately licensed and required.
- Maintain daily site records and report progress, delays, safety issues, quality concerns, plant requirements and material shortages to management.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Relevant drainage, plumbing or civil construction trade qualification, or at least three years of relevant full-time work experience.
- At least of one-year work experience as a drainer.
- Robust knowledge of drainage grades, levels, pipe alignments, trench preparation and installation methods.
- Ability to interpret civil construction drawings, drainage plans and technical specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to lead drainage or earthworks crews while remaining actively involved in hands-on-work.
- Sound understanding of workplace health and safety, quality control and environmental requirements.
Salary: The role offers a remuneration package ranging from $80,000 - $110,000, plus superannuation for a 38-hour work week. Code: CLAR0020
