The prospect

We are seeking a senior rail delivery professional to lead the planning and delivery of a portfolio of enabling infrastructure projects supporting a major Queensland government rail programme.

This is a single, senior appointment rather than a team role. You would be accountable for a group of connected projects — mainline connections, maintenance and stabling facilities, network and wayside works, and associated road and intersection upgrades — delivered by a mix of delivery agents including a state rail operator, a state road authority and local government. Much of the physical work is delivered by others, so the role is as much about interface, integration and holding an integrated schedule together as it is about direct delivery.

What you would be doing

- Leading planning, procurement, delivery and integration across a portfolio of enabling projects, and maintaining the integrated schedule that connects them to a fixed downstream milestone
- Managing scope, schedule, cost, quality and performance to approved programme outcomes
- Leading a planning and delivery team and building a collaborative, high-performing, safety-focused culture
- Overseeing procurement, administration and performance of delivery partners, consultants and contractors
- Identifying and managing risks, issues, dependencies and interfaces across the portfolio
- Securing statutory, environmental, regulatory and operational approvals in line with programme requirements
- Driving operational readiness, handover and transition into service
- Providing expert advice and recommendations to a programme director on delivery, commercial and strategic matters
- Managing relationships across a rail network operator, principal contractors, state agencies, local government, utilities and regulators

Applications that do not meet all four cannot be progressed, however strong the rest of the background.

- A degree in Engineering
- At least ten years' experience on major infrastructure projects, including a minimum of five years on rail or rollingstock projects
- Prior experience working with both the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads and Queensland Rail in the delivery of road and/or rail infrastructure projects
- Availability to work full time from late September 2026 for the full twelve-month term

Highly regarded

- RPEQ registration and chartered status
- Current rail industry worker accreditation and safety competencies
- Experience with rollingstock introduction, testing and commissioning
- Experience delivering maintenance facilities, stabling yards or depots
- Brownfield delivery on a live rail network — possessions, track access and safety interface
- Experience procuring and administering contracts under government procurement frameworks
- Experience leading delivery where the works are executed by another agency or authority
