We are proud to become a new Australian Department of Defence partner, offering career opportunities to support the delivery of Property and Asset Services across South Australia and the Northern Territory.
About the role
We are seeking a passionate, driven and hands-on Environmental Officer to join our growing Defence team in South Australia. This is not your typical environmental role. One day you may be conducting ecological assessments in remote bushland, identifying threatened flora and fauna, or overseeing contractors undertaking large-scale weed and pest management programs.
The next, you could be investigating a water contamination issue, providing environmental advice to operational teams, or collaborating with Defence stakeholders to protect nationally significant environmental assets.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, Defence requirements, contractual obligations, and environmental management systems.
- Provide environmental advice to operational teams, contractors, and stakeholders on risks, controls, and best practices.
- Support land management, biodiversity conservation, environmental monitoring, vegetation management, and rehabilitation activities.
- Coordinate weed, pest animal, and bushfire management programs to protect environmental values and reduce risk.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, compliance assessments, and monitoring to ensure environmental compliance.
- Manage relationships with Defence personnel, contractors, consultants, and stakeholders,
including oversight of environmental service providers.
- Prepare environmental reports, maintain records, and support incident investigations.
About you
- Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
- Experience in environmental monitoring, inspections, audits, reporting, and risk management.
- Knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, regulations, and management principles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, GIS/mobile data collection tools, and environmental reporting systems, with the ability to quickly learn new platforms.
- Experience in field-based environmental activities.
- Robust communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Current Australian Driver's Licence.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance.
- Australian Citizen.
