Coolabah Cooling & Electrical is seeking an experienced Air Conditioning Installation Supervisor to take operational ownership of our installation department.
This is a newly created, senior position designed to reduce the installation department’s reliance on the business owner for daily coordination, technical decisions and problem-solving. The successful applicant will be trusted to lead the installation team, properly prepare jobs and ensure installations progress safely, efficiently, profitably and with minimal unnecessary drama.
This is a hybrid office and field-based role. You will work wherever your involvement is needed most—planning upcoming installations, supporting field staff, inspecting workmanship, resolving technical issues and developing the capabilities of our existing team.
Depending on the successful applicant’s experience and leadership capability, the position may be appointed or developed into an Installation Manager role.
Key responsibilities
• Take responsibility for approved installation jobs from sales handover through to completion.
• Review upcoming jobs to confirm the scope, labour, equipment, materials, access requirements and potential complications.
• Prepare accurate technical material requirements for ducted installations, including plenums, ductwork, outlets, zoning components, controls and associated materials.
• Work closely with Purchasing, administration and warehouse staff to ensure jobs are fully prepared, checked and ready before installation day.
• Coordinate cranes, scaffolding, roof stands, core drilling, difficult access requirements and supporting trades where required.
• Work with estimators to confirm suitable labour allowances, crew sizes and the required combination of tradespeople and apprentices.
• Provide strong technical input into the installation schedule and have final input into crew allocation based on employee skill sets and individual job requirements.
• Act as the primary support person for installation crews when technical problems, missing materials, scope concerns or unexpected site conditions arise.
• Supervise employees and subcontractors across residential, commercial and construction installations.
• Establish clear workmanship expectations and hold installation team members accountable for incomplete, inconsistent or substandard work.
• Conduct pre-start checks, site inspections, quality-control reviews and troubleshooting as required.
• Oversee installation defects and callbacks, ensuring issues are properly investigated, rectified and used as opportunities to improve.
• Coach, support and train installers and apprentices to bring out the best in the existing team.
• Communicate directly with clients, builders and site supervisors regarding job preparation, technical matters, access, variations and progress.
• Assess scope changes and coordinate with the office to ensure variations are priced and approved before additional work proceeds.
• Ensure installation crews follow company safety procedures, manufacturer requirements and relevant installation standards.
• Work with administration to follow up missing job notes, photographs, commissioning records and compliance documentation.
• Develop and improve installation procedures, checklists, technical material lists and workmanship standards.
• Identify and report operational issues that may affect labour performance, material costs, job efficiency or profitability.
About you
A Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration would be highly regarded but is not mandatory. We will consider applicants with proven installation supervision, coordination or management experience who possess a strong practical and technical understanding of air-conditioning installations.
You will need:
• Robust knowledge of air-conditioning installation processes across split, ducted, residential, commercial and construction work.
• Proven leadership, supervision or installation-coordination experience.
• Strong planning, organisation and problem-solving abilities.
• Confidence making decisions and holding team members accountable.
• Sound computer skills and the ability to work confidently with job-management software, email, digital plans, spreadsheets and ordering systems.
• Plandroid experience would be advantageous; however, training can be provided to someone who is computer literate and willing to learn.
• Clear and professional communication skills when dealing with field staff, office staff, subcontractors, clients and builders.
• A current driver licence.
Culture matters
Technical knowledge is important, but attitude and cultural fit are equally important and may ultimately carry more weight.
We are looking for someone positive, friendly, approachable and solutions-focused who genuinely enjoys working as part of a team. You must be able to communicate respectfully, remain composed under pressure and hold people accountable without creating unnecessary conflict.
The right person will bring out the best in the people around them and contribute positively to the team culture Coolabah has worked hard to build. Skills and systems can be developed; the right attitude, work ethic and approach to people are essential from day one.
What we offer
• Company vehicle.
• Full-time, predominantly Monday-to-Friday employment.
• A genuine hybrid role across office and field operations.
• The authority and support to improve how the installation department operates.
• An opportunity to shape a newly created role and make a measurable impact.
• Potential appointment or progression to Installation Manager level for the right person.
If you are an experienced installation supervisor, senior coordinator, team leader or manager ready to take ownership of a busy installation department, we would like to hear from you.
