About the role
We are seeking a dedicated hands-on and proactive HSE Co-Ordinator to join our team on a full-time basis. This role is pivotal to ensuring that Metrocon maintains its commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards across all our operations. As HSE Co-Ordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and environmental programmes to protect our workforce and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and regulations. This position offers an excellent chance to make a tangible difference in creating safer working environments across our construction projects.
Key responsibilities
Reviewing, implementing, and maintaining health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and systems across all construction sites and offices
Conducting regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure compliance with HSE standards and regulations
Investigating accidents, incidents, and near-misses, documenting findings, and implementing corrective and preventative actions
Providing HSE induction and training programmes to all employees and subcontractors, ensuring awareness of company policies and legislative requirements
Monitoring and maintaining HSE documentation, records, and registers, including safety data sheets, incident reports, and compliance certifications
Liaising with regulatory bodies, clients, and external authorities to ensure adherence to health, safety, and environmental legislation
Promoting a positive safety culture through regular communication, toolbox talks, and engagement initiatives
Supporting the development and review of risk assessments and method statements for construction activities
Coordinating emergency response procedures and ensuring all employees understand evacuation protocols
Reporting to the HSE Manager on HSE performance metrics and providing recommendations for continuous improvement to senior management
What we're looking for
Certifications in WHS
- Certificate IV in WHS (Minimum Mandatory Requirement)
- Diploma in WHS (Highly regarded)
General Construction Induction Training / White Card (Minimum Mandatory Requirement)
Proven experience working as an HSE Co-Ordinator, HSE Advisor, or similar role within the construction industry.
Strong knowledge of Australian health, safety, and environmental legislation, (including but not limited to) WHS Act 2020, WHS Regulations 2022, approved COPs and/or industry AS/NZS.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with staff, subcontractors and other external stakeholders at all levels.
Demonstrated experience in critical risk assessments, coordination & methodology planning with project teams and subcontractors covering WHS matters, hazard identification, and incident investigations.
Competency with HSE documentation systems, databases, and Microsoft Office applications. Breadcrumb and Procore preferred, however, we can train up the right candidate.
A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong organisational and time management abilities
Demonstrated commitment to promoting a positive safety culture and continuous improvement
Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to multiple construction sites as required. This role is very hands on, boots on the ground. You will be leading by example on the front lines and assisting site teams with WHS KPIs and working with our subcontractors to achieve compliance.
First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain this qualification)
